Aria’s throat was painfully dry, and tears streamed down her face.
Humiliation and despair washed over her in waves.
She curled up in the corner of the car, biting her lip hard, an occasional sob escaping.
Henry glanced back, but Gideon raised the partition between them.
“Drive.”
Aria hadn’t used the speakerphone, so he had only heard bits and pieces of the conversation.
It sounded like an acquaintance of hers was in the hospital. He had just stopped her from visiting, that was all. Was it really necessary to cry like this?
Wasn’t she just playing the victim?
If the person could call her, they couldn't be in that bad of a shape.
“Once Lilith goes home tomorrow, I won’t stop you from coming here.”
It was too late.
Aria cried silently.
Her professor would never trust her again.
Henry pulled the car up to the Evernight estate.
“Does Ms. Rowan intend to continue staying at Mr. Evernight’s home?”
Seeing that Aria wasn’t getting out of the car, a hint of disdain crossed Henry’s face.
Aria was attractive, but she was just the unfavored daughter of the Rowan family. How could she possibly compare to Lilith?
Did she really think she could seduce Gideon with these kinds of tricks?
“You can go home.”
Gideon shut the car door.
Aria understood exactly what he meant.
She was ovulating. Otherwise, he would never have let Henry drive into the Evernight estate.
Henry’s heart skipped a beat. He didn’t dare linger. He would never breathe a word of what happened today to anyone.
Aria had actually managed to successfully seduce Mr. Evernight!
After Henry left, Gideon ignored Aria.
“While your grandfather is still healthy, you need to hurry up and have a few more children. Having those shares in your possession is more important than anything!”
Gideon’s expression remained unchanged. “I’m only having one child with Aria.”
Eveline slammed her cup on the table and stood up. “Has Aria put a spell on you? You married her to carry on the family line. Are you actually feeling sorry for her now?”
Gideon didn’t explain.
Aria was about to be pushed into the bathroom by the maids, but as they passed Gideon’s study, a thought struck her. Lilith was so important to Gideon, he must have a copy of her medical records!
She shoved the maids away and locked herself in the study.
Just as she thought!
On Gideon’s desk was Lilith’s medical chart!
She flipped to the data she was looking for and began to carefully examine the biopsy results.
Her eyes froze on one particular data point.
Then, her fingers began to tremble uncontrollably.
Lilith didn’t have late-stage osteosarcoma at all!
