Aria turned her head to look.
Alden Reaves walked in first, followed closely by Samuel Kersey.
"Ms. Rowan, my father heard you were wronged over the medication issue, so he asked me to bring these documents to back you up."
Back her up?
That phrasing sounded a bit ambiguous.
Raphael Evernight pressed his lips together.
"Aria has already handled most of her situation herself. Even if she needs help, I will make the arrangements."
Aria looked at Raphael.
Actually, from her very first interaction with Samuel, Aria had keenly sensed that he might be interested in her.
But right now, she had no desire to focus on romance. She wanted to dedicate all her energy to solving the genetic puzzle.
Though Raphael's words were slightly inappropriate, they would at least make Samuel drop any ideas he had about her, right?
Samuel paused for a moment, glancing around at the crowd. Why was Raphael here, too?
He handed the confidential documents to the police officer.
"Officer, this file is enough to prove Aria's innocence, but I must ask you to keep its contents strictly confidential."
Although the injured patients were soldiers stationed overseas, the list remained classified.
Keeping it private was also to protect the safety of the soldiers' families.
The officer immediately spotted the flash of a classified seal on the file Samuel handed him.
At the same time, he looked over at Alden Reaves, who gave him a confirming nod.
The officer's expression grew even more solemn.
He led Samuel to an interrogation room, which offered better security.
Since the man had been brought in by Dr. Reaves, the officer naturally trusted his authenticity. But because this involved national security, he still needed to report it to his superiors.
"Please wait a moment, everyone."
"Why are you acting like a mute? You got bullied and can't even speak up for yourself? If you're going to be this useless, don't you dare go around telling people you're my student!"
Aria pitifully tugged at Alden's sleeve.
"If I hadn't told them you were my mentor, they probably would have bullied me even worse."
Alden sighed, frustrated by her lack of fight, before turning his ire directly onto Aldous Evernight.
"Aldous, what you did was completely out of line. Has Aria really contributed nothing to the Evernight family?
She's such a good kid, so why is she treated so terribly under your roof? I told you to let the kids get a divorce, but you just wouldn't listen.
If they had split up sooner, would this mess have even happened?"
Choked by Alden's words, Aldous could only let out a cold scoff.
"Didn't you say today was the end of the cooling-off period? Why aren't you at City Hall? Why did you come to the police station instead?"
"And about this stolen confidential data you mentioned—I already know about it. That Kersey boy came here specifically to handle it."
