"What is going on? Is Lilith just going to die without any justice?"

Charles's voice was laced with ice.

"If the police would just drop the case, we'd be lucky."

Since Lilith's death was officially classified as a homicide, the police were legally bound to investigate it to the bitter end. Even if Roxanne wanted to withdraw the charges against Aria, it was no longer up to her.

Too disgusted to stay in the same room with them, Charles turned on his heel and stormed out.

Helena immediately shuffled over to Roxanne, a sickeningly calculating gleam in her eye.

"If Gideon finds out that paying him back means we can't even afford to give Lilith a proper funeral... do you think he'd still force us to pay?"

Roxanne's eyes lit up. "You're a genius!"
