Charles also looked over. It was the middle of the night, yet Gideon was dressed impeccably in a suit, a clear sign that he hadn’t been in bed with Aria.
“Then, can we call Aria now?” Lilith whispered.
Flora nodded through her tears. While Lilith was being moved to her room, she had tried calling Aria several times, but there was no answer.
“Mr. Evernight, please call Aria,” she said.
Gideon nodded and dialed Aria’s number. The call went unanswered.
What was wrong with Aria?
Gideon stepped out of the room to make a few more calls.
Inside the hospital room, Charles sat by Lilith’s side to look after her.
“Charles, I’m stepping out for a bit. You stay here and watch Lilith,” Roxanne said, wiping her tears before leaving.
Gideon was on a call, but he quickly ended it when he saw Roxanne approaching.
“Gideon, you can’t promise Lilith that! She needs the umbilical cord blood! We can’t pin all our hopes on a doctor who disappeared years ago!”
After learning of Lilith’s illness, Roxanne had immediately consulted experts. She knew how crucial the cord blood was for Lilith. She couldn’t just stand by and watch Lilith give up hope.
“Lilith is just too kind. She doesn’t want to put you in a difficult position, but you can’t agree to her request. Please, have a child with Aria as soon as possible!”
When Henry brought Aria over, she had just stepped out of the bathroom and changed into dry clothes. Henry didn't dare ask about her relationship with Gideon; his only thought was to get her to the hospital quickly.
Henry was stunned. Divorce papers? Whose? Gideon and Aria were divorcing? They were married? He had been targeting his boss’s wife all this time?
If Flora hadn’t messaged her to say Lilith’s suicide attempt was a ploy to force the divorce, she wouldn’t have come. It seemed her suspicions were correct: Lilith knew she didn’t need the cord blood and was just using her illness to make Gideon divorce her.
But a divorce was what she wanted anyway.
“A divorce is fine, but you must have a child with Gideon to save Lilith!” Roxanne lunged forward and grabbed Aria’s hand. “Aria, if you have any conscience at all, have a baby and save Lilith!”
She was soft-hearted, and she had considered saving Lilith. But the fact was, Lilith didn’t need her to.
“Mom, let’s not forget our arrangement. I paid you twenty million dollars for the privilege of never having to call you family again.”
