After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 322

True empathy didn't exist in this world. Only when two people were pushed into the exact same corner could they faintly understand each other's desperation.

Charles clenched his fists, completely paralyzed by the choice. He knew Aria was forcing his hand. No matter what he decided, it would be a profound betrayal to someone he cared about.

"Do you really have to push me like this, Aria?" he asked, his voice strained.

"Is this pushing you?" Aria offered a cold smile. "I don't think so."

Ever since he left the country, Flora had done terrible things, but he couldn't bring himself to entirely condemn her because she had always been undeniably devoted to him. On the other hand, Roxanne was over a decade older than him and had practically raised him. Abandoning his sister for Flora would make him a monster.

Neither legal battle had an easy way out. Unable to choose, Charles stared at his right hand. After a heavy silence, he spoke in a hoarse voice.

"Considering I took that stab wound for you... could you please just let them both go?"

Even when he had resented Aria the most, he had never used that incident against her. But now, he was entirely out of options. He knew that invoking this debt would permanently sever whatever fragile thread still connected them.

Aria's gaze darkened. "I don't believe I owe you anything anymore."

It was true that Charles could no longer practice medicine because of her, but it was equally true that her body had been irrevocably ruined because of him. Aria instinctively touched her stomach. Her ability to carry a child was gone forever.

"Charles, that experiment you ran back then—"

Before Aria could finish, Charles's phone buzzed aggressively. He glanced at the caller ID; it was Mrs. Keene. Had something happened to Flora?

"I need to take this."
