Eveline gritted her teeth, unwilling to speak.
Things had always gone her way, and now she was being forced to apologize to someone younger than her, and on camera no less. It was so humiliating!
"Ma'am, if you don't settle this now, you'll likely be detained," the lawyer said, pushing up his glasses as he laid out the pros and cons. "Even with connections, it would take time. You wouldn't be in and out on the same day."
"Mom, if you're actually detained, it won't be the vacation you're imagining," Gideon added. "There won't be a plush mattress for you, you can't take a bath every day, and there won't be any maids to wait on you."
Aria's eyes flashed with ridicule.
Even now, Gideon was still coaxing Eveline to apologize, not because she had done something wrong and needed to change, but because going to jail would mean losing her comforts.
How ironic.
Eveline weighed her options and said reluctantly, "Aria, I apologize to you."
"That wasn't sincere."
"Don't push it!"
"You're the one who pushed it."
Aria was unyielding.
Eveline was fuming. Just then, the two maids were brought over.
Seeing Aria standing there, they quickly pleaded, "Ms. Rowan, we know we were wrong. Please be the bigger person and forgive us!"
"Ma'am, you have a kind heart. Please don't stoop to our level. I have a family to support, I really can't go to jail!"
Gideon's expression was calm. "You're both fired."
Then he turned to Aria. "Is that better? Are you satisfied now?"
It was utterly absurd.
The mastermind was Eveline, yet Gideon brushed it off, while the accomplices were fired.
Although the two of them deserved to be fired, the anger in Aria's heart remained.
"Not satisfied. Their apologies were more sincere than Eveline's."
"You want me to grovel before you? In your dreams!"
If Aria really dared to make her apologize like that, Eveline would rather die right there than let her get her way.
The moment she was free, Eveline lunged forward and slapped Aria across the face.
"You little bitch! You're the one who's no good! A useless woman who can’t even provide this family with an heir!"
It happened so fast. Gideon reached out to stop her, but he was a step too late, his hand frozen in mid-air.
The force of the blow sent Aria’s vision swimming, a high-pitched hum drowning out the room as the sting of the slap flared across her skin.
A ringing filled her ears.
"What do you think you're doing? Are you trying to commit assault right here in the police station?"
The female officer instantly pinned Eveline against the wall.
The lawyer rushed over to intervene. "Officer, this is a family matter, not an assault. The old madam was just angry, she meant no harm."
Just angry?
Meant no harm?
Aria clutched her face and looked at Gideon. "Do you agree with the lawyer?"
