After All the Hurt, She Chose Herself novel Chapter 88

“Gideon, what are you doing here at this hour?”

When she saw Aria was also there, her expression instantly changed. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m here to see Grandpa. I’m hoping he’ll agree to let me restart the neurological drug research.”

Gideon’s voice was cold. “I’ve already handed that project over to the Keene Group. You are not to interfere.”

Eveline was completely lost.

“What are you two talking about?”

But as soon as she heard “neurological drug,” she had a good idea of what was going on.

It was most likely related to Lilith again.

That venomous woman Aria must be trying to make Lilith’s life difficult.

Aria couldn’t be bothered to explain to Eveline. She sat down unapologetically on the sofa and retorted, “Whether I can or not is Grandpa’s decision to make. I don’t listen to you.”

The moment Eveline heard Aria’s tone with Gideon, she exploded. “Aria! What is that attitude?!”

“This is my attitude.”

Gideon moved to block Eveline’s path.

She was impulsive, and starting a physical fight at the family estate would not be wise.

“What’s all the commotion?” The old man emerged, leaning on his cane.

“Grandpa, why did you suddenly ask me to move back?”

Aria sat up a little straighter.

She was worried the old man would reveal her pregnancy.

The old man shot Gideon an annoyed look and grunted. “I told you to move back, so you move back. Why are there so many questions?”

Gideon glanced at Aria. “Isn’t it because someone told you something?”

It was clear their relationship was in serious trouble.

Gideon spoke with indifference. “Grandpa, it’s an Evernight family tradition to marry a woman from a respectable family. Aria doesn’t qualify.”

Eveline quickly chimed in. “That’s right, Dad! Aria isn’t even a Rowan. I heard her biological mother was just some… some kind of tramp! Her manipulative tricks, didn't she just pick them up naturally from her?”

“You’d let a woman like that into the family registry? Would our ancestors even acknowledge her?”

Aria clenched her jaw.

“Have you ever even met my mother? How dare you slander her like that? Does someone who casually slanders others deserve the ancestors’ approval?”

Aria had only ever seen a photo of her biological mother. She didn’t even know her name.

But the house in the photo looked warm, and her mother was holding Lilith, smiling so gently.

Aria’s intuition told her that her mother was not that kind of woman!

Therefore, she would not allow anyone to insult her!

Aria looked at Eveline, her expression icy. “Spreading malicious rumors and slander is illegal. Are you trying to get arrested again?”
