Gideon pushed the thoughts from his mind and sat down beside Lilith.
Lilith's face was pale. After returning to the hospital room, no effective measures were taken; the doctors said her collapse was due to extreme emotional shock.
Charles clenched his fists. "That drug was dangerous, and Hazel had no idea!"
"What's the use of saying that now? What about Lilith?" Flora said softly, wiping away tears. "If Lilith stops the drug now, is there a suitable replacement?"
Charles fell silent.
Everything they had done was to avoid putting Lilith through conventional treatments, which were too harsh on the body.
They never expected it to end like this.
"We'll start with standard chemotherapy for now," Gideon said. "We haven't heard back from Dawn yet, and Lilith can't wait any longer."
Charles nodded. "I'll have them arrange a chemo plan right away."
Lilith's eyes fluttered open. Seeing Gideon by her side, her eyes filled with tears.
"Gideon, Aria knew there was a problem, why didn't she tell me… I'm already… addicted to this drug!"
Gideon's lips tightened.
Aria had told him more than once not to let Lilith use the drug. It was he who had been stubborn, convinced that Aria was trying to harm Lilith.
But thinking back now, Aria's actions toward Lilith didn't seem as malicious as Lilith had made them out to be.
On the cusp of fatherhood, Gideon's perspective couldn't help but shift toward the mother of his child.
"Aria wasn't trying to harm you. I was the one who insisted. If you're going to blame someone, blame me."
Lilith's body stiffened slightly, as if she hadn't heard him correctly, and her tears kept falling.
"Why not blame Aria?" Flora asked, annoyed. "Gideon, don't you love Lilith? If Aria hadn't been jealous and refused to tell us the consequences, we never would have let Lilith take that drug…"
Gideon frowned. "I've only ever viewed Lilith as family."
Lilith's face grew even paler.
Once her uterus was gone, even if a miracle occurred, she could never have a child of her own.
Aria was lost in a daze, inching her way out of the hospital, leaning on the wall for support.
"Aria! How dare you show your face!"
Flora, who had come down to buy food, spotted Aria as she entered the hospital.
The thought of Lilith's current state, which she blamed entirely on Aria, ignited her fury.
"And you call yourself a researcher! Your own sister was using a dangerous drug, and you didn't say a single word to warn her!"
Flora's shout drew everyone's attention to Aria.
"You stop right there!" Flora blocked Aria's path. "I'm talking to you! Are you mute? Or do you feel like you've been wronged?"
Aria had intended to ignore her, but Flora was relentlessly aggressive.
"You say I didn't warn you? I repeatedly stressed not to use the drug, but you wouldn't listen. You thought I was trying to harm her. Now that something's gone wrong, it's my fault?"
