28 Chapter 282
282.Chapter 282
‘But how did Julian manage to bring down that overpass?’ Alicia wondered.
There was no boom, no crash, so it had to be set up ahead of time.
There was this faint, weird smell hanging in the air-it was coming from Julian’s blood.
Then she realized she’d caught that same scent right before she died.
‘What’s the connection between these two?
‘Could Julian have used some kind of chemical or weird substance to pull this off?’ Alicia wondered.
But that didn’t make sense. If he’d used something that could corrode and destroy the overpass, it would’ve been discovered and investigated for sure.
Julian was always super cautious-he definitely made it look like a freak accident.
‘Then what the hell was it?
‘Chemicals! That’s it!’ Alicia thought, a sudden realization hitting her.
Alicia got up and Googled what kind of animals could seriously mess up bridges or buildings.
She found out about nutria-those giant beaver rats.
She told her assistant to get her some nutria rats.
By evening, Sherry brought over a few of those nutria rats.
Alicia put a drop of Julian’s blood into a dish.
She placed the cage with the nutria rats not far away and started observing.
After a few minutes, the nutria rats, who’d been cowering in fear, suddenly freaked out.
They stared at the dish, kept slamming into the cage, and bit at the bars with their teeth.
They tried to squeeze out of the cage, desperate to get to that dish.
The moment that drop of blood hit the dish, those nutria rats went absolutely wild for it-it was like they couldn’t resist at all.
‘So that’s the secret, Alicia thought, everything finally clicking into place.
Julian must’ve tracked her routine and figured out she’d be crossing that overpass every day.
In her previous life, he either used his own blood or a drug mixed with his blood to attract the nutria rats, and placed it under the overpass.
He’d let a bunch of nutria rats loose ahead of time to start burrowing away.
Right before the overpass was about to give out, he lured the nutria rats back under the bridge.
Then, just before her final trip across the overpass, he timed it perfectly and released the nutria rats one last time, making sure the whole thing collapsed right as she was crossing.
That way, her death would just look like a tragic accident, and no one would ever suspect him.
On the outside, Julian always seemed cool, arrogant, and totally unapproachable. But underneath that icy exterior, he was a cold-blooded schemer-a real high-risk operator who knew exactly how to play people.
Alicia suspected he might even be straight-up antisocial, maybe even psychopathic.
That day, the overpass was packed with cars. When she died, there were probably a lot of other people who lost their lives
too.
Julian didn’t give a damn about anyone else-he’d do whatever it took to get what he wanted, no matter who got hurt.
Someone like him was a menace to society-letting him loose was a recipe for disaster.
Alicia carefully stored the drop of blood and called up Jason.
She told him to get his people digging into Julian or anyone else had been purchasing large quantities of nutria on the sly.
She also wanted them to check if Julian was keeping any animals stashed away, especially nutria rats.
Julian had basically turned himself into a walk Successfully unlocked! 19 with drugs on himself-so of course he’d need a bunch of animals to test things on.
Plus, it looked like his blood had some kind of weird pull on a lot of different animals.

The next day.
Jason messaged Alicia with an update: turns out, over the past year or so, several people had been secretly stocking up on nutria rats by the dozens.
None of them were Julian himself, but every single one had some kind of link to him.
They also found out Julian owned a property on the outskirts of town, where he kept all sorts of animals-including, you guessed it, nutria rats.
That sealed it for Alicia-her hunch was spot on.
