After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 1043

“Natalie, which Mr. Adams are you here to see?” The receptionist greeted her with a bright, practiced smile.

“Lawrence. Is he in today?” Natalie leaned forward, her tone casual but certain. “Ethan’s out on business, I know that, so of course I’m not here for him.”

If Ethan were really at the office, she wouldn’t waste another second with the receptionist. She’d just call him directly, no patience required.

“I’ll need to check if Mr. Adams is available. Please wait a moment.” The receptionist reached for the phone, her hands moving efficiently.

Natalie offered a polite thank you, watching as the receptionist eyed her a little more carefully, maybe surprised she was being so agreeable today. Then again, Lawrence wasn’t the kind to spoil her like Ethan did, so Natalie knew better than to throw a fit.

The receptionist spoke quietly into the phone, then nodded and set the receiver down. She left the front desk, walked up to Natalie, and smiled again, the sort of smile that said she had good news. “Natalie, please come with me. Mr. Adams said you can go up.”

They walked together to the executive elevator. The receptionist pressed the button and swiped her access card. As the elevator doors opened, she stepped back, letting Natalie ride up to the top floor on her own.

A few minutes later, Natalie stepped into Ethan’s office and found Lawrence waiting for her. He rose when she entered, polite as always. “Natalie, is something wrong?”

“Ethan was in a car accident? How bad is it? Which hospital is he in? Tell me, I need to see him.” Natalie didn’t bother with small talk. She just needed the answers.

Lawrence fell quiet for a moment, considering. “I’ll have to ask Ethan first. He just made it through the worst, but he’s still really weak. He might not be up for visitors yet.”
