Isabella smiled. "I've already been divorced once. How could I still be blinded by love?"

"If Harold wasn't so incredible, and if I didn't want to miss out on him, I wouldn't even think about getting married again."

Cynthia said, "If you meet a good man, you should marry him. You don't have any siblings, and I'm getting older. After I'm gone, you'll be all alone. Pardon me for saying this, but if you get sick, you won't even have someone to pour you a glass of water."

Peter apologized to Cynthia over the phone.

"Jeremy and the others egged us on, and that's why we did something so utterly despicable."

"I know you won't believe a word I'm saying right now. You'll just think I'm saying this for money."

Peter paused over the line before continuing, "But we really are desperate for money. Berenice is genuinely sick, and treating her is an endless money pit."

"We're just ordinary people with no savings. Business at the Anchor & Oyster fluctuates, and with a huge family to feed, there's truly nothing left over."
