After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 1142

Isabella stared at him, exasperated.

Seeing her reaction, Ethan looked pathetic. "I'm still weak. I have to be fed. If it's not my mom, it's my grandmother. I'm just helpless, I'm not trying to take advantage of you."

Helping him drink water wasn't taking advantage.

Isabella sighed inwardly. She got up, poured a glass of warm water, and sat on the edge of the bed. Supporting his upper body with one arm, she brought the glass to his lips.

Ethan hadn't expected her to actually take care of him.

Did she still care?

She had loved him so deeply before. Could she really just let go of all those feelings in six short months?

"Don't overthink it," she said, noticing his gaze. "I have a lot of questions for you. You're going to have to do a lot of talking, and I don't want your throat to give out. That's why I'm giving you water."

"We're divorced. I'm Harold's girlfriend now."

"We're never getting back together."

The light in Ethan's eyes dimmed.

"You won't even let me dream," he muttered, sounding wronged.

"Are you going to drink or not? If not, I'm dropping you."

Isabella gave him a stern look.

"I'll drink. I'm drinking."

Ethan quickly took a gulp.

The once arrogant, high-and-mighty Mr. Adams was now reduced to this pitiful state, needing help just to drink water. Isabella's expression softened slightly.

Once he finished, she set the glass down and carefully eased him back against the pillows. Seeing him wince, she immediately asked, "Did you pull your stitches?"

"I'm fine. I can handle it. Today is much better than the last two days. Before, just shifting my weight made it feel like my internal organs were being crushed. My external wounds hurt like hell, too."

He wasn't exaggerating for pity. It truly hurt.
