"Ethan, do you think your car accident was orchestrated? It looked like an accident, but what if it was a setup? What if someone wanted you dead?"

"You think it was York?"

Ethan wasn't slow; he followed her logic immediately.

Isabella nodded. "I think it's possible. He has the means and the connections."

"But I don't have any beef with him in reality. He couldn't possibly have had the same dream as me, right?"

Ethan couldn't see a motive for York to kill him now.

"Even if Nat hired him, she wouldn't want me dead. At least, not yet."

Furthermore, Natalie didn't even know where he was traveling for business.

Isabella pursed her lips. "My gut tells me York is behind this. Have your people dig deeper. Don't just accept this as a coincidence. Your security detail was right behind you, yet only your car crashed."

"Do you believe it was an accident?"

Ethan didn't believe it either.

But having just survived, he hadn't had the energy to analyze the situation. His family was investigating, but with no solid leads, they were treating it as an accident for now.

"I'll have Jeremy and Keith look into him."

"Be careful. Don't alert him. He has men everywhere. If you start digging, he'll know immediately,"

She decided she needed to test York when she got back to see if he truly shared her memories of the alternate timeline.

Deep down, Isabella was almost certain he did.

And York was likely trying to test her, too, seeing as her actions had drastically deviated from the information he would have had.

"I will. You can trust them to handle it."

Not Jordan's? Then whose?

Seeing her pointed stare, Ethan panicked. "Isabella, why are you looking at me like that? I never slept with her! Yes, she showed up at my house in the middle of the night once, begging me to sleep with her because she wanted a baby."

"She said they hadn't been able to conceive and suspected Jordan was infertile, or that his genes were bad since the last pregnancy failed. She wanted a healthy baby with me..."

"But I turned her down! I completely rejected her. I never touched her. Her pregnancy has nothing to do with me. It is absolutely not my kid!"

God knew he was entirely innocent in this department.

Isabella let out a small laugh. "Why are you panicking? I never said it was yours."

"You were staring at me! Of course I thought you suspected me. I had to explain myself. I'm not taking the fall for something like that."

"I know it's not yours. You're too much of a gentleman when it comes to things like that. Besides, who knows if everything even works down there for you."

Ethan's face darkened. "Isabella, just because I'm stuck in this bed doesn't mean you can insult my manhood. I work perfectly fine. If you don't believe me, you can test it out yourself once I'm fully recovered."
