Cynthia sat there in shock, her face growing paler by the second. She’d lived long enough to notice things, and she had always thought it was strange how Ethan suddenly started chasing after Isabella, even arguing with his own family just to marry her. But Isabella had fallen for him so deeply.

Isabella had known Ethan since she was a kid. They’d been friends for twenty years. Cynthia figured Isabella had probably been in love with him for a long time. So when Ethan started pursuing her, Isabella gave in quickly. Cynthia had tried to warn her, but Isabella wouldn’t listen.

“I’ll apologize to Isabella tomorrow when she gets back from the Adams estate.” Laura looked down, guilt written all over her face. She knew she should have asked Isabella before sharing all this, and now she owed her an apology.

Cynthia felt like her heart was being ripped apart. Tears spilled down her cheeks.

Laura quietly picked up a box of tissues from the seat, handed it to Cynthia, then started the car without another word.
