"I thought you might have too much on your plate, so I came to lend a hand."
"It's just some tidying up. If things get busy at the studio, you should go back and take care of that. I can handle things here."
Still, Isabella followed Laura into the shop. She handed her the box of pastries Harold had given her. "Laura, you have to try these."
Laura took the box and started opening the bag. "Where did you get these? Are there even bakeries open this early?"
As soon as she opened the lid, both of them were taken aback by how beautiful the pastries looked. Laura's eyes lit up. "I don't even care how they taste yet. Just look at them. They're so pretty, I feel hungry just staring at them. Whoever made these really knows what they're doing. We still haven't settled on a pastry chef for our place."
They each tried a piece. The moment they tasted it, both of them couldn't help but praise it.
"I ran into Harold on my way here and hitched a ride with him," Isabella explained. "He gave me this box and said his family's pastry chef made them. He even mentioned that if we need a pastry chef, he could introduce us."
"Did he actually make an introduction? If Harold recommends someone, they must be really talented. The question is, could we even afford a chef like that?"
Laura couldn't resist picking up another pastry for herself. Isabella only tasted one since she'd already had breakfast. She left another for Laura and offered the rest to the renovation crew.
Ethan's good looks were overshadowed by how tense he looked. He'd spent the night outside Isabella's door, hadn't showered or changed, and he was positive he smelled awful. All because of her.
"Laura, can I talk to Isabella for a minute? Alone?" Ethan didn't even acknowledge Laura's sarcasm, just politely asked her to leave.
"That's not necessary," Isabella replied, her tone cool. "Ethan, there's really nothing for us to talk about. I've said everything, again and again. Unless you're here to agree to a divorce, we have nothing to discuss. If you're ready for that, then we can have a proper conversation."
"Isabella, I bought you so many gifts last night. Jewelry, skincare, clothes, bags—all the things women like." Ethan acted like he hadn't heard a word she said. He walked right up to her and lifted the bags so she could see everything he'd brought.
