Ethan was quiet for a moment before finally saying, “He’s going to find out eventually.”
“I... I won’t come around as much anymore. I’ll keep my distance from Natalie. She’s Jordan’s wife now.”
There was already a wall between them. On one side, it was just Ethan. On the other, Natalie and Jordan stood together.
“That’s your decision. You don’t need to tell me.” Isabella turned and started walking away.
Ethan hurried after her. “We came here together, and you didn’t drive. Let me take you home.”
“That’s not necessary. I can get a taxi.”
“Jordan isn’t away on business, so he’s on his way back. Natalie’s just a little under the weather. She doesn’t need me to look after her anymore. I’ll drop you off and head back to the office.”
Ethan’s thoughts were a mess after realizing he’d been lied to. He wanted to be angry at Natalie, but when she started crying, he couldn’t say a single harsh word. She told him he was treating her worse, that she was scared he’d eventually stop caring for her. That’s why she’d lied, just to see if he still cared. She kept insisting she really was sick, that her throat hurt and she had a low fever.
After loving Natalie for so many years, Ethan just couldn’t harden his heart. All he could do was walk away.
Since he’d put it like that, Isabella didn’t argue. She got in the car with him.
