After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 43

“You went to see Frank?”

Isabella nodded. “Yeah, I did. I needed a favor, but he’s so stingy. He shot me down and told me to come to you instead.”

She set the flowers on the table and dropped onto the sofa, glancing at Ethan. “Does your head still hurt?”

“Would you even care if it did?”

“Do you actually need me to care?” Isabella shot back. “You should be calling Natalie. Tell her you got wasted last night and woke up with a killer headache. One nice word from her would mean more to you than a thousand from me.”

Ethan fell silent, his expression softening. Whenever Natalie Gates came up, guilt hit him like a wave.

“Frank mentioned you want to invest in short dramas.”

“Yeah, that’s right. Are you okay with it? Can you just tell Frank to cooperate with me, no matter what I ask?”

Her attitude made his temper flare again. “Is your allowance so big you can’t spend it all? Now you want to burn money on some drama project? Investing is the fastest way to lose everything.”

If she just stayed home and played the perfect Mrs. Adams, she could spend his money for ten lifetimes.

“It’s not that much. Actually, it’s not enough,” Isabella replied. “Ethan, can I get an advance on three years’ worth of allowance?”

Ethan could only stare at her.

“I’m bored out of my mind at home. I want to make some money for myself. The short drama business is about to blow up. I want to catch the wave and make a profit.”

“Isabella Lane, my wife doesn’t need to be out there hustling,” Ethan said, his voice cold. “Just stay home, be a wife, maybe a mother. That’s enough.”

“If you try to invest, I’ll cut off your allowance.”

Ethan’s voice was icy. “Fine. Go ahead and invest if you want. Just don’t come crying to me when you lose it all. I won’t help you.”

Isabella beamed, grinning wide. “I don’t need your help. Just don’t get in my way. Let me do what I want. That’s all I ask.”

“You said it yourself when we got married. We don’t interfere in each other’s business. I can do whatever I want, as long as I don’t ruin the Adams family name.”

“Starting a business won’t ruin anything.”

And honestly, it would give her a chance to meet more attractive men. Once she made her own money and divorced Ethan, she’d have plenty to spoil a boy toy or two. She had zero interest in love or marriage anymore.

“You want to invest, fine, I won’t stop you,” Ethan said. “But you have to write me a promise. No getting too close to any of those actors. Keep your distance.”

“Isabella Lane, remember, you are Mrs. Adams. You are my wife.”
