After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 469

“But I still want to win her back,” Ethan said. “We’re in the cooling-off period before the divorce, right? I’m going to try again. I’ll chase her properly this time.”

If Isabella gave him even the smallest sign that she might be willing to forgive him, he’d take back the divorce papers in a heartbeat. She’d still be his wife.

Harold just shook his head. “I told you from the beginning. If you were going to marry her, you should’ve treated her right. You should’ve let Natalie go. Natalie never picked you, not once. But you, you told Isabella the truth on your wedding night. How was she supposed to not resent you for that? And after you got married, you just kept hurting her for Natalie’s sake. She’s not made of stone, Ethan. You keep hurting someone enough, they just stop caring. I’ll be honest, even if it pisses you off. You did this to yourself. You deserve what you’re getting. I don’t feel bad for you at all.”

Harold had already made up his mind. If Ethan and Isabella actually went through with the divorce, he wasn’t going to hide his feelings anymore. He’d go after Isabella openly, and whether or not she accepted him, he’d still treat her well.

Ethan let out a cold, bitter laugh. “You’re just waiting for us to break up, aren’t you?”

“Have I ever said that?” Harold shot back. “Every time Jesse and I talked to you, didn’t we tell you to work it out with Isabella, to treat her right and make it work?”

Ethan had no comeback for that.

Jesse jumped in, “Ethan, that’s not fair to Harold. We’re your friends, and we’ve been here the whole time. We’ve tried to talk sense into you so many times. You’ve held a grudge ever since Harold bought Isabella that kite at the beach, acting like he’s some kind of rival. But you don’t even love Isabella, so why treat Harold that way? If Harold liked Natalie, then maybe I’d understand.”
