The driver reached out, giving Ethan’s shoulder a gentle pat.

The secretary, finally snapping out of her daze, tried to get Ethan to stop crying.

Ethan couldn’t hold back. If he didn’t care about Isabella, he wouldn’t have been falling apart like this. His sobs were so gut-wrenching that even the people standing around started to tear up.

The coroner’s van pulled up.

A police officer walked over, speaking softly as he asked Ethan to let go of Isabella, so the staff could take her body. Because it was a murder case and her identity was confirmed, her body wouldn’t be cremated right away. She’d be kept in cold storage at the morgue until the case was solved.

But Ethan wouldn’t let go. He clung to Isabella, shouting at everyone that she wasn’t dead, that she was just asleep.

Jeremy didn’t argue. He just told the driver to head for the morgue.

By the time they got there, Ethan had calmed down a little. He wasn’t as frantic, but his sadness was still there, heavy in the air.

He asked for a professional mortician to prepare Isabella, wanting her to look peaceful, to look like herself one last time.

He stayed at the morgue all day. When the Adams family heard what happened, they all came by and finally managed to convince Ethan to go home.
