Laura had changed the time just so she could wait for Isabella.
“It’s no trouble at all. Get in, I’ll drive you over now.” Harold opened the car door for her with a polite smile.
Isabella followed him without a word.
“Isabella.” Ethan reached out, almost on instinct, trying to catch her hand, but Isabella pulled away.
“Let me take you home, okay? We came together, so we should leave together.” His voice was low, his eyes pleading.
Harold watched Ethan’s desperate expression, shaking his head internally. If you cared this much, why didn’t you think of it before?
“No need. You should give Natalie a ride instead. Looks like she took a cab here.” Isabella had noticed that Natalie’s car wasn’t parked outside the civil affairs office.
She figured Natalie must have come by taxi. Driving here but choosing to take a cab instead… Isabella didn’t need to think hard to figure out what Natalie was up to. It was just her way of making sure Ethan would offer her a ride home.
Honestly, Isabella had to admire Jordan. His wife was this close to his childhood friend, and he could actually put up with it.
But then, with all the benefits The Adams Group brought to The Lane Group, Isabella could kind of understand Jordan’s tolerance. Still, it was funny. Jordan always talked about how much he loved Natalie, and the two of them put on a show of being madly in love whenever people were around.
But deep down, Jordan’s “love” was just a way to use Natalie’s relationship with Ethan to help his own company.
And Natalie was something else, too. She didn’t want to give up Ethan’s status or his money, but still chose to marry Jordan, then turned around and helped Jordan get favors from Ethan.
Why didn’t she just marry Ethan? She could have been Mrs. Adams, with Ethan’s billions at her fingertips.
Oh, right. Ethan never actually confessed to Natalie.
Honestly, those three were a mess.
Isabella got in Harold’s car.
Ethan’s face went dark. He started to follow, but Natalie stepped in and held him back. “Ethan, Isabella doesn’t need your help. Stop trying so hard when she clearly doesn’t care.”
Harold was quiet for a moment before asking gently, “So what’s next for you?”
“Making money,” Isabella said, suddenly brightening. “I finally have the funds to invest in Barbara’s project, my web series is doing well, and my new shop is opening soon.”
Her whole face lit up as she talked about business.
“Barbara’s project sounds promising. Have you guys talked it through yet?”
“We were supposed to. But after everything that happened, we haven’t had a chance to meet in person. We spoke on the phone, though, and she’s excited to work together.”
And there was Linda’s new project, too. She had the capital to invest in that now as well.
Men? Lose one, there are plenty more out there.
But money? That was what really mattered. No way was she going to fall apart over a man who never loved her. He just wasn’t worth it.
