After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 571

Laura had fallen asleep at the table, her head resting on her folded arms.

“God, I can’t believe how much I wanted to be rid of Ethan. He’s just… too much. How did I ever fall for that jerk?” Isabella mumbled under her breath.

The door to their private room swung open.

Ethan walked in.

He knew exactly where Isabella was, knew she was out for dinner and drinks, so of course he showed up.

Linda and Barbara just gaped as Ethan strode in. He looked thinner than usual, shadows under his eyes, like he hadn’t slept right in weeks. Clearly, Isabella insisting on the divorce had gotten to him. Still, even worn out, he was ridiculously handsome. His face was so serious as he headed straight for Isabella. Linda and Barbara were too stunned to react, so they just watched as he reached her.

He bent down, lifted her arm, and settled it over his shoulder, easing her up from her seat.

“Ethan!” Linda finally snapped out of it. She jumped up and blocked his way. “Where do you think you’re taking her?”

Ethan’s voice was calm but firm. “My wife’s had too much to drink. I’m here to take her home. Don’t worry about the bill, Linda. Dinner’s on Isabella tonight.”

“She’s divorcing you!” Linda shot back.

Isabella, still leaning on Ethan, tried to push him away, but she was too drunk. Her words came out all tangled. “Ethan… I’m not your wife anymore… I got away from you… finally… I don’t have to die now…”

Ethan’s jaw tightened, but he just held her closer, his voice softening as he tried to soothe her. “You’ve had too much, Isabella. I’m here to take you home. Let’s just go home, okay?”

Linda huffed. “I know he won’t hurt her, but who is he trying to impress now? They’re just waiting for the divorce to be finalized. Don’t tell me he’s actually regretting it.” She let out a sarcastic laugh. “If he’s having second thoughts now, I swear, that’s hilarious.”

They both knew they couldn’t stop him, but they still followed him out into the hallway. They watched as Ethan, surrounded by bodyguards, carried Isabella away. Linda made a face. “Look at that, he even brought backup. Was he planning on snatching her or something? Too little, too late if you ask me.”

Barbara sighed. “People never realize what they have until it’s gone.”

“Ethan never wanted the divorce in the first place. I don’t know what happened after Isabella got hurt and ended up in the hospital, but after she got discharged, he suddenly agreed to let her go. Maybe he’s still trying to change her mind.”

Linda rolled her eyes. “The second Natalie shows up, he’ll forget all about Isabella. He’s always been a jerk. He totally deserves to get dumped.”
