After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 722

Laura grinned. “Relax, your mom didn’t try to give me money. Paying me off never even crossed her mind.”

Jesse smiled back. “Of course not. My mom really likes you. The moment she found out I was into someone, she wanted to meet you right away. I was just worried she’d scare you off, so I told them not to bother you.”

He hesitated, then added, “But honestly, I bet my mom and grandma snuck over to check you out anyway. You probably just didn’t notice.”

Jesse knew his family too well. He was already considered a late bloomer—still single, not even dating, and his family was getting restless. Since he was the heir, his relatives had set him up on more blind dates than he could count, but he’d turned them all down.

At one point, his family even started to wonder if he was gay. He was close with Harold, so they figured maybe something was going on there. Or if not Harold, maybe Ethan. No matter how he explained it, they were never fully convinced.

Everything changed when they finally learned he liked a girl. The whole family let out a collective sigh of relief.

Sure, the Charles family was nothing like the Mason family—and everyone knew it—but because Jesse liked Laura, they were willing to accept her. His grandma had even said, “As long as he brings back a wife, that’s enough for me.”

He didn’t have proof, but Jesse was sure his family had done their homework on Laura. They’d dug into her background and already knew all about the Charles family.

Thanks to Jesse’s help, the Charles Group had been expanding quickly and was earning a real reputation. Laura’s status only kept rising.

She and Isabella had started a media company together, and now they were major players in the industry. They’d produced a bunch of short dramas that went viral, even scoring a few big hits.

The Mason family couldn’t have been happier with Laura.

Laura shook her head. “I’m positive I never met your mom before today.”

He’d given Laura skincare products so many times, but she’d only just recently accepted a set. She’d always turned down his expensive gifts before, and she wouldn’t even take flowers from him.

Other women were drawn to his status, looks, and skills, but Laura always kept her cool. She was never swept away by him. If anything, he was the one who’d fallen hard for her.

He couldn’t imagine marrying anyone else.

Laura said softly, “I know what you give me is good. I never doubted that. It’s just, those gifts are a little too much for me to accept. I can buy them myself, you know.”

It wasn’t just now that she had her own business—back when she was just a full-time writer, she’d always treated herself to the best brands.

Laura had never been the type to shortchange herself.
