After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 728

Natalie tried to push him off.

“Jordan, you’re drunk.”

But Jordan just pressed her down onto the sofa, his whole body heavy against hers.

She struggled for a moment, but he wouldn’t budge. So she gave in, slipped her arms around his neck, and kissed him back with all the heat she’d been bottling up.

She’d wanted a night like this, just the two of them, but Jordan had come home so late.

He was clumsy, fumbling over her, and just when she started to get swept up in it, he suddenly went completely still and passed out, right on top of her.

He was out cold.

So much for a romantic night.

Natalie tried to shove him off again, but he was dead weight. She checked his face. He was totally knocked out.

Anger bubbled up inside her.

With a big push, she managed to roll him off the sofa. He hit the floor with a thud.

He didn’t even flinch. Out like a light, sleeping so deeply it was almost impressive.

Natalie sat up, catching her breath, and glared at her husband sprawled on the carpet.

Looking at him, she suddenly felt a wave of frustration and helplessness.

Everything she did was supposed to make their life better, to build a good home, to help them get ahead.

But when she was the one hurting, Jordan was too drunk to notice, let alone be there for her.

She nudged him with her foot. He didn’t move at all.

The house was completely silent. Jackson wasn’t home.

After the divorce, Jackson and Deborah had gone public. Deborah was practically moving into The Lane Estate.

She wanted to move in right away, but Jackson, wanting to avoid more drama, kept her at bay by promising they’d wait until they were married. Then she could move in for real, no secrets, no sneaking around.

That way, if Deborah wanted to fight with Natalie, she could do it openly and feel justified.

He was instantly annoyed.

Who was calling in the middle of the night? If you couldn’t sleep, fine, but why drag him into it?

He didn’t even check who it was, just answered, his voice full of irritation. “Who is this? It’s the middle of the night. Can’t sleep? That’s your problem. Let people rest.”

“Ethan, it’s me.”

He froze.

Suddenly wide awake, he sat up and turned on the bedside lamp. “Natalie? What’s going on?”

“It’s so late. Why aren’t you asleep? Is Jordan still out for work? Don’t worry about him. He’s a grown man, he’ll be fine. Sometimes these work dinners are just part of life. You should go easier on him.”

But all he heard was Natalie sobbing on the other end.

Ethan’s annoyance disappeared.

He asked, his voice gentle, “Natalie, what happened? Please, don’t cry. Tell me what’s wrong. Did something happen to Jordan?”
