After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 819

He hadn't even noticed when Ethan left.

“Hurry up,” Nadine pressed, then hung up.

Jordan made his way back to his father, lowering his voice. “Dad, Natalie’s had too much to drink. I’m going to take her home.”

Jackson looked a little surprised at the news but didn’t say much, just gave a short nod.

With his dad’s go-ahead, Jordan hurried to the ballroom. By now, half the guests were gone.

He spotted Natalie slumped over a table in the corner and rushed over. “Why did you two drink so much?” he asked Nadine.

Nadine wasn’t drunk at all. She’d barely touched her drink and spent most of the evening watching Natalie.

“Natalie said we hadn’t had a drink together in forever. Since we ran into each other, we had a couple of glasses. We started talking, laughing, and suddenly she’d had a little too much.”

Jordan gently helped Natalie sit up, speaking softly. “Come on, honey, let’s go home.”

Natalie opened her eyes for a second, then shut them again. She mumbled something he couldn’t catch, but Jordan didn’t ask. He picked her up, gave Nadine a quick nod, and carried her out of the hotel.

Nadine watched them disappear, then scoffed under her breath. “Looks like the perfect husband, but he’s cheating behind her back. Total jerk, just like his dad.”

The party finally ended around eleven thirty.

Laura shook her head. “I trust my gut. The way Douglas looks at Melissa… there’s something there. He tries to hide it, but if you pay attention, you can see it. Everyone’s just fooled by how much they argue.”

“I’m not sure how Melissa feels, but I’m certain Douglas has feelings for her.”

Jesse’s smile faded a little. “You really think so?”

Women always seemed to notice these things first.

Laura sounded so sure that Jesse decided to believe her. He thought back on all the times he’d seen Douglas and Melissa together. Douglas always acted furious, but he’d never actually done anything to hurt her.
