After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 830

Nadine took a few slow breaths, forcing herself to stay calm. She knew Isabella was just goading her, hoping she’d lose her cool and make a scene.

“Isabella, I came here today because I want to talk to you about Harold.”

She locked eyes with Isabella, feeling a sharp sting of jealousy at how gorgeous she was. If she looked like Isabella, maybe she would have already won Harold’s heart and become the Carter family’s lady of the house.

“What about Harold?” Isabella asked. She already knew what this was about, but she kept her face blank, waiting for Nadine to say it out loud.

Nadine straightened her back and said, “I’ve told you before. I like Harold. I want to marry him.”

“Yeah, you have. Honestly, you’ve got good taste. Harold’s the kind of man any woman would want to spend her life with. It’s totally normal that you like him, and wanting to marry him is even more normal. But what does that have to do with me?”

Nadine scowled. “Isabella, cut the act.”

“My point is, stay away from Harold. He’s mine.”

Isabella let out a short laugh. “A divorced woman going after a guy who’s never been married? Really? Do you think just because you’re pretty, every guy will fall at your feet? You’re still tangled up with Ethan, and now you want to hold on to Harold too? Isn’t that a bit much, Isabella?”

Isabella’s face went cold. “Nadine, I never said everyone loves me because I’m pretty. And I don’t need everyone to love me, either.”

“Ethan and I are divorced. He’s the one who won’t let go, not me. Harold and I are friends, we work together, and whatever happens next is my business, not yours.”

“If you’re jealous, Nadine, go ahead and do what you want. Get tangled up with Ethan, chase after Harold, too. If you’ve got what it takes, I won’t be jealous or bitter.”

“This is my company, my office. Why shouldn’t I be confident? And honestly, I don’t think I’m being over the top. I haven’t hit you, yelled at you, or thrown coffee at you. I’m just standing up for myself.”

“If that’s what you call being cocky, maybe you should think about how you came in here, yelling at me and throwing accusations. Did you really expect me to just sit here and take it?”

Nadine was too angry to answer. She glared at Isabella, her eyes burning with frustration. If looks could kill, Isabella would be done for.

She grabbed her glass of water and finished it in one gulp, then put it down and tried to calm herself.

After a moment, she looked at Isabella again, her expression softer but her voice trembling. “Isabella, what do you want? What will it take for you to leave Harold to me? Please, I’m begging you. I really love him, more than anything. If I can’t marry him, it’ll break my heart. If anything happens to me because of this, it’ll be your fault, and you’ll have to live with that for the rest of your life.”
