Natalie knew she was never going to divorce Jordan. If Ethan kept being so stubborn, he’d end up single forever. No woman would be able to put up with that.
“Jeremy,” she said, wiping her tears away. “Could you leave us for a minute? I need to talk to Ethan alone.”
Jeremy looked at Ethan, then stood up. “Natalie, Ethan’s right. You and Jordan are married now. Things can’t go back to how they were. It’s good to have some boundaries.”
He turned to Ethan. “I’ll be outside. If anything happens, just call me.”
Natalie didn’t know what to say to that.
Did Jeremy really think she was a threat to Ethan?
Ethan could handle himself in a fight. She was hardly a danger to him.
Once Jeremy left, Natalie turned and locked the office door behind him.
“Natalie, why are you locking the door?” Ethan’s voice was tense. He remembered that night she’d shown up at his place, desperate and vulnerable. He stood up and started to walk around the desk toward the door. “If you lock us in here, people will start to talk. They’ll think something’s going on.”
“Ethan.” As he brushed past her, Natalie spun around and wrapped her arms around his waist, holding him tight from behind.
“Ethan, please don’t treat me like this,” she pleaded.
Ethan reacted like he’d been shocked, quickly prying her hands away and gently pushing her back.
