You didn’t even need to ask. Anyone could see it was his daughter acting out of jealousy, letting her feelings get the best of her.
Harold had just walked Isabella home. She poured him a glass of warm water and set out some fresh fruit. Before they could say much, Harold’s phone started ringing.
He glanced at the screen, then answered. It was Lawer.
“Harold, it’s me, Lawer,” came the polite voice on the other end.
Harold kept his tone even. “Lawer. Is this about Nadine? I assume you’ve heard already?”
Lawer sighed. “Someone posted a video online. The faces were blurred, but I recognized Nadine right away. Plus, you and Isabella were in it too, so I figured out what happened.”
The person who posted the video had tried to hide their identities, but it hadn’t been done well. Anyone who knew them could tell who it was.
“Harold, Nadine was wrong. I can’t defend her. But she did it because she cares about you too much. She was jealous, lost control, and honestly, I spoiled her. That’s on me.”
“I want to apologize to both you and Isabella. Nadine smashed Isabella’s new car, and we’re willing to buy her a replacement. Could you please talk to Isabella for me? Ask her to let this go, just this once?”
“I promise I’ll keep Nadine in check. This won’t happen again.”
“I’ll make sure Nadine apologizes to Isabella in person. Whatever Isabella asks for, as long as we can manage it, we’ll do it. We just hope she won’t press charges. Nadine is still so young. If she ends up in jail, her whole future is gone.”
