After I Stopped Loving Him (Isabella and Ethan) novel Chapter 888

Lawer lowered his voice. “Let’s talk inside. He’s not here for anything good, but now that he’s shown up, we can’t exactly throw him out.”

He and Pansy hurried to show Ethan the way.

Inside, Pansy poured water for Ethan and her husband, then brought out some snacks and filled the coffee table.

Ethan sat down on the sofa, leaning back and resting his arm on the armrest. He tapped his fingers, steady and loud, the sound echoing in the quiet living room.

Lawer felt his nerves stretch tighter with every tap.

“Mr. Adams, what brings you here so late?” Lawer forced a smile, pretending he didn’t already know why Ethan had come.

Ethan looked up, his eyes dark and cold. He stared straight at Lawer, his lips tight before he finally spoke. “Nadine smashed Isabella’s new car.”

Lawer’s smile froze. He quickly tried to recover. “It’s just a little misunderstanding between the girls. Really, just a small argument. We’ve already talked with Isabella, and we’ll get her a new car.”

Ethan just laughed, but there was no warmth in it. “A misunderstanding? A small argument? You’ve already talked to her? What kind of misunderstanding ends with someone smashing up a car? If no one had stopped her, she would’ve completely trashed Isabella’s car.”

“And as far as I know, Isabella refused to settle. Is that your idea of settling things?”

Lawer’s words caught in his throat. He knew Isabella hadn’t agreed to anything. She’d only said she’d think about it, but whether she’d actually forgive Nadine was still up in the air.

Lawer and Pansy stared at him, shocked.

“It was a gift for Isabella. I picked it up this afternoon, brand new. I only drove it back to Hearthside Coffee after dark, and in less than two hours, Nadine smashed it.”

“So, Lawer, tell me, what did my car ever do to your daughter? If she has a problem with my car, her real problem is with me. Was she trying to attack me instead?”

“No, no, of course not, Mr. Adams. Our whole family respects you. Nadine didn’t know. If she’d known that car was a gift from you to Isabella, she wouldn’t have dared touch it, not for anything.”

Ethan let out a cold laugh. “She would. She was already angry at Isabella because I was good to her. She called Isabella a homewrecker, a bitch who steals other people’s men.”
