“If Ethan really dares to go after the Franklin family, I’ll talk to him myself. Sure, he’s fixated on marrying Isabella now, but we grew up together. There’s no way he’d completely forget our history.”
Pansy couldn’t help but scoff at her own wishful thinking. What if he really had moved on? What if the past meant nothing to him now?
She wasn’t about to risk the Franklin family’s entire future on a feeling.
Nadine’s reputation was already in ruins, but after a few months behind bars, she could send her daughter away from Cabinda. Give it some time, let people forget, then maybe come back, find a decent man, and live a quiet life. That was still possible.
But if they ended up on Ethan’s bad side and dragged the whole Franklin family down with them, they’d lose everything.
“Natalie, are you heading home? I can give you a ride,” Pansy said, steering the conversation away from trouble.
“Actually, can you drop me at the Lane Group? I’m going to wait for Jordan to finish work so we can have dinner together.”
Pansy nodded, glancing at Natalie. She hesitated, clearly wanting to say something but holding back.
Natalie caught on right away. “About Jordan, right? We just had a misunderstanding. He wasn’t cheating. I completely misread the situation that night.”
“As long as it’s cleared up, that’s all that matters. I knew it. You and Jordan have been friends since you were kids. You’re so close, there’s no way he’d cheat. Sometimes you need to trust yourself, not let other people twist your view.”
“Husbands and wives need to trust each other. That’s the only way marriage works.”
“I know, Pansy. I will.”
Pansy didn’t say anything else. She drove Natalie to the Lane Group, waited until she got out, then turned the car around and left.
Natalie walked into the building and glanced back. Once she was sure Pansy’s car was gone, her expression darkened.
