After One Night with the Alpha (Brad and Elle) novel Chapter 119

Chapter 119

Elle’s POV

:

I saw Brad’s jaw clench, saw something dark and dangerous flash in his eyes. Then, he reached over and placed his hand on Sophia’s

shoulder.

“You’re absolutely right,” Brad said, his voice carrying to every corner of the dining room. “Roy’s last night as a bachelor we can’t miss

that.”

The words hit me like a physical blow. I gripped my water glass tighter, fighting to keep my expression neutral as my world tilted

sideways.

Then he turned those burning eyes on me.

“Sophia, I’ll have to trouble you to look after Elle.” he said, each word deliberate and cutting.”

Sophia’s response came immediately. “Sounds perfect.”

I forced myself to smile, to nod like this was all perfectly normal, even as I felt myself fragmenting inside.

“Raymond,” Sophia’s voice cut through my spiral of despair, “I heard you’re from Moon Lake City! Elle and I both love exploring local cuisine – any good restaurants you’d recommend for us?”

Raymond’s blue eyes brightened as he smiled. “Actually, yes.”

He paused, then added with genuine warmth, “If you don’t mind, I’d be happy to show you around.”

The sharp crack of breaking metal exploded through the conversation like a gunshot.

I flinched, my eyes snapping to Brad just in time to see him throw the pieces of his snapped silver fork onto his plate. The sound was violent, final, and the low growl that rumbled from his chest made every instinct I had scream danger,

His amber eyes flashed with pure gold – wolf eyes, predator eyes – and for a moment I forgot how to breathe.

The servant’s face went white with terror.

I picked up my tea cup with trembling hands, using it to hide my face. I could barely breathe.

The rest of the lunch passed in suffocating tension. I could feel Brad’s gaze burning into me, but I refused to look at him. Instead, I focused on my food, on my breathing, on protecting the tiny life growing inside me from the toxic atmosphere surrounding us.

Just get through this. Just survive this.

Chapter 119

Everyone else seemed to have lost their appetite except for Mira and Lester. The air was so thick with competing pheromones that even taking a sip of water felt like a monumental effort.

When I finally couldn’t take another second, I set down my napkin and stood on unsteady legs. “Thank you for the wonderful funch, I managed, my voice surprisingly steady. “I think I’ll rest now.”

Sophia immediately rose as well. I’m finished too.”

“Elle, let me walk you to the room.”

She turned to Roy and Yara with a gracious smile. “We’ll see you tonight for the full moon celebration.”

As we left the dining room, I felt the weight of Brad’s stare following me like a physical touch. But I couldn’t look back. I wouldn’t give

him the satisfaction.

The guest room was a relief after the battlefield downstairs. Sophia had already moved her luggage in, claiming the space for both of us.

“God, Roy really knows how to live!” she exclaimed, flopping onto the enormous bed with obvious delight. “This place makes our Frostclaw

territory look practically rustic compared to this luxury.”

I sank into a chair by the window, my body feeling heavy and drained. Being pregnant made everything worse I couldn’t stand for long

periods, couldn’t sit comfortably

I placed both hands on my belly, feeling for any movement from the little one.

Sophia’s playful demeanor shifted as she watched me.

“I got some intel from Alpha about Brad and Mira’s history,” she said suddenly, sitting up with intensity. “Want to hear it?”

I shook my head quickly. “I don’t need to know.”

“No, you need to hear this,” she insisted, her voice taking on an urgent edge. “You can’t let me keep this information bottled up – I’ll

explode if I don’t tell you!”

Her werewolf physique was tense with excitement, her breathing quickening like she was preparing for a hunt.

I sighed, recognizing that she wouldn’t let this go. “Fine. Tell me.”

Sophia’s eyes lit up with silver fire. “Mira and Brad were each other’s first relationship attempt, even though they weren’t true mates. This was eight years ago, before Brad inherited his Alpha position.”

Each word felt like a knife twisting in my chest, but I forced myself to listen.

“Six years ago, Mira disappeared without warning. Just vanished completely from Moon Lake City. Brad went absolutely crazy looking for her literally shifted and searched everywhere.”

I thought Marrisa is his first love.

Then suddenly, Brad stopped searching. Started throwing himself into family business, Alpha training. Fought his way to the top, became the powerhouse he is today.”

Sophia leaned forward, her voice growing fierce. “Elle, this Mira coming back now? She’s definitely here to seduce him! She knows he’s become a powerful Alpha, and she wants back in.”

She grabbed my hands, her grip surprisingly strong. “But you can’t give up! You’re carrying his child, and more importantly, you’re his true

mate!”

I pulled my hands free, feeling something cold and final settle in my chest.

So that’s it. They were each other’s firsts. No wonder.

Brad and I have known each other for what, a few months? How could I possibly compete with that kind of history?

Choosing to lock away my heart and step back from this game – it’s the only sensible choice. I’ll just be the mother of his child. Nothing more.

“You know as well as I do that Brad and I are only together because of this baby.” I finally replied, my voice flat and emotionless.

The words tasted like ashes in my mouth.

“Elle…” she whispered, her voice thick with emotion.

I stood abruptly, forcing brightness into my voice and plastering on a smile. “Alright, I’ve rested enough. This little troublemaker has been

very quiet today.”

I patted my belly with exaggerated cheer, fighting to project normalcy.

‘I heard Moon Lake City has lots of interesting places. Since we’re here, we shouldn’t waste such a good opportunity.”

I turned to Sophia with that fake bright smile still plastered on my face. “Come on, let’s go explore!

Sophia studied my face for a long moment, and I could see her wrestling with whether to push the issue or let me have this escape.

Finally, she nodded slowly, understanding my need to change the mood.
