Chapter 34

Elle’s POV

I rolled my eyes, confused as I stared at the man in front of me. There was something vaguely familiar about him, but I couldn’t place it. Besides Brad Rayne and a few colleagues, I didn’t know anyone in high

society.

“Do we know each other?” I asked directly.

He looked startled by my question, then chuckled lightly, though his eyes remained intensely focused on

mine.

“This morning,” he explained, “my car accidentally hit yours. Remember?”

“Oh!” I exclaimed as recognition dawned. My mouth fell slightly open in surprise. “What a coincidence. Are you here to give me compensation for the repairs?”

My directness caught him off guard. He stared at me, clearly not expecting such a straightforward approach

from a human.

“What’s your real name?” he asked instead.

Before I could answer, a strange sensation washed over me. It started as a tingling at the base of my neck- right where Brad’s mark was-then spread across my shoulders like warm water. An inexplicable pull, urging me back toward the main hall. My hand instinctively rose to touch the mark, confused by this odd feeling. It was almost like… being called. Was this what they called mate bond?

Before I could process this bizarre sensation, my phone started ringing in my purse. The timing was so perfect it sent a chill down my spine. With slightly trembling fingers, I pulled out the phone, my suspicion confirmed when I saw Brad’s name flashing on the screen.

“How did he…?” I whispered to myself, momentarily forgetting Raymond’s presence. Had Brad somehow sensed I was away, called to me through whatever invisible thread connected us?

“I have to go,” I told Raymond, already backing away, suddenly eager to follow that strange pull.

As I turned to leave, I couldn’t help adding, “Don’t forget about the compensation! The repairs are

expensive!”

I hurried back toward the main hall, phone pressed to my ear. “Hello?”

“Where are you?” Brad’s voice was cold, with that unmistakable Alpha authority that made my spine straighten instinctively.

“Coming back now,” I promised, quickening my pace. “I ust needed some air.”

When I re-entered the grand hall, I immediately spotted Brad. He stood tall among the crowd, his powerful

Alpha presence causing others to give him space. His eyes found mine instantly, and I could see the

tension in his shoulders ease slightly.

“Where did you go?” he demanded as I approached, his voice low but carrying that Alpha pressure.

“Ate too much and felt bloated,” I explained honestly. “Needed to walk around to help digestion.”

His gaze dropped to my slightly rounded belly, and something in his expression softened. “We can leave

now.”

Relief washed over me. I’d been uncomfortable all evening, surrounded by so many werewolves with their

heightened senses. Without thinking, I stepped forward and slipped my arm through his, not wanting to be

left behind.

Brad’s expression shifted, the anger in his eyes giving way to something else. The corner of his mouth

twitched upward in what might have been a smile.

Brad’s car waited outside. He opened the door for me, and I slipped into the passenger seat, grateful that

the evening was finally over.

Once we were driving away, I leaned back against the headrest. Pregnancy fatigue hit me suddenly, and I found myself drifting off, the gentle movement of the car lulling me to sleep.

Brad’s POV

I glanced in the rearview mirror at Elle’s sleeping form. She had dozed off almost immediately, her head tilted against the window. Instinctively, I slowed the ca

Since meeting Elle, I’d been driving more slowly than ever before. This custom-built car, worth over three million dollars, was barely reaching forty miles per hour. Yet I found myself enjoying this slower pace, savoring the scent of my mate mixed with the distinct smell of my unborn child.

The moonlight streamed through the car’s open roof, iluminating Elle’s face. In sleep, her features were

relaxed, her usual wariness gone. For the first time, I noticed how beautiful she was when at peace like

this.

I worried the breeze might be too cool for my pregnant mate. I pulled over, took off my jacket, and carefully draped it over Elle’s sleeping form. My fingers accidentally brushed against her neck, sending a jolt of electricity through our mate bond.

Elle shifted in her sleep, making a soft “mm” sound as her lips accidentally brushed against my fingers. I froze, feeling my eyes instantly flash to their wolf gold. The mate bond between us vibrated with an

intensity that caught me off guard.

She continued to sleep, completely unaware of how she had just awakened my wolf. I found myself lightly

touching her lips, marveling at their softness.

Curious, I poked her cheek gently, then again, surprised by how deeply she slept.

My gaze returned to her slightly parted lips, and I felt the mate bond tugging at me. I narrowed my eyes,

feeling the wolf’s possessiveness take over.

Slowly, I leaned down, watching as her face grew larger in my field of vision. Up close, I could see every detail-her flawless skin, eyelashes like tiny fans, her straight nose, and those peculiar eyes hidden behind

closed lids.

Her lips were full and naturally pink, all traces of lipstick gone. They emanated a scent that was uniquely

Elle, utterly enticing.

Before I could stop myself, I pressed my lips against hers in a light kiss. The mate bond surged between us, stronger than I’d ever felt it. The sensation sent a shock through my entire being, as if my soul had

recognized its other half.

Elle made a small sound and stirred. My eyes flew open the gold quickly fading back as rationality

returned. I jerked upright, shocked by my own actions.

What had I just done? I, an Alpha with legendary self-control, had stolen a kiss from a sleeping human

woman.

Elle’s eyes fluttered open, those unique irises-one green, one blue-focusing slowly on my face. “Where are we?” she asked, voice husky with sleep. “Is this the way back to the territory?”

I stared at her, momentarily speechless. My heart was still racing, and I could feel heat radiating from my face. What would she think if she knew what I’d just done? What I wanted to do again?

Elle frowned, studying me more closely. “Your face is all red. Are you feeling alright? Or is it something to

do with your wolf?”

“No!” I answered too quickly. “You’re seeing things.”

“I’m not,” she insisted, looking concerned.

“You are,” I snapped, embarrassed. “Let’s go!”

I stepped on the gas, the car lurching forward with sudden speed.

“I’m carrying your child!” Elle cried out, grabbing her seatbelt. “Slow down!”
