Chapter 35
Elle’s POV
4、念62%會
I was pretty sure Brad was trying to kill me with whiplash. One minute he’s speeding like a maniac, the next he’s suddenly easing off the gas, slowing our car to a crawl. My hands relaxed their death grip on the door handle as the speedometer dropped to something easonable.
Dealing with this moody Alpha was exhausting. His emotions seemed to flip faster than channels on a TV remote. One second he’s all business, the next he’s… whatever that was earlier when his face turned red
and he denied it.
I rubbed my barely-there baby bump and sighed. “Little one,” I thought to myself, “your daddy is the most unpredictable Alpha on the planet. Good luck with those genetics.”
We finally pulled into the driveway of the Rayne family estate. Brad stopped the car, unbuckled his seatbelt, and was out the door before I could even reach for my own buckle. He strode toward the house
without a backward glance.
What?
“Oh, don’t worry about me,” I muttered under my breath. “I’m just carrying your heir. No need to wait.”
I took my time unbuckling, grabbing my purse from the floor. That’s when I noticed it – Brad’s black coat was still on my seat, carefully placed where I’d been sitting.
Had he stopped the car earlier to put this over me? The thought made something warm unfurl in my chest. Maybe he wasn’t completely cold after all. Even if it was just for the baby’s sake, the gesture was…
thoughtful.
I climbed out of the car, coat draped over my arm. made my way to the front door, feeling suddenly less
annoyed than I had been moments ago.
Martha greeted me in the foyer.
“Good evening, Mrs. West,” she said, taking my purse and the coat. “Did you enjoy the gathering?”
“It was… educational,” I replied diplomatically, slipping off my shoes with a sigh of relief. “Is Brad around?”
“Alpha Rayne is in his study. He asked not to be disturbed,” Martha replied. Then she added in a slightly lower voice, “and he requested the kitchen to prepare a late supper.”

I glanced toward the stairs leading to Brad’s study. Had Brad been too busy playing politics to eat?
“I’ll make something for him,” I said suddenly.
Martha’s eyes widened slightly. “You don’t need to trouble yourself, Mrs. West. The kitchen staff-”
“It’s no trouble,” I interrupted.

Martha’s expression softened, a knowing look crossing her features. “Very well. The kitchen is fully stocked. I’ll let the staff know to assist if you need anything.”
Twenty minutes later, I’d changed out of my elegant dress into comfortable lounge clothes and secured my hair with a large clip.
–
I moved around the kitchen, preparing chicken soup. For a werewolf, I added extra protein – a hearty roast beef sandwich and a side salad. Nothing too heavy for late night, but substantial enough for werewolf metabolism.
When everything was ready, I arranged it carefully on a tray and made my way up to Brad’s study. My heart beat a little faster as I knocked on the door.
“Enter.” His voice was deep and commanding, full of Alpha authority.
I pushed the door open with my hip, balancing the tray carefully. Brad sat behind his massive desk, not bothering to look up from his papers.
“Set it down and go,” he said dismissively.
I placed the tray on a side table, hesitating. I should have just left, but something kept me rooted to the
spot.
“Coffee,” he commanded suddenly, still not looking up.
I bit back a sigh and set the coffe beside him without a word. He took a sip immediately and grimaced.
“Too bitter,” he complained, finally looking up. When he registered it was me, his expression changed
instantly. The hardness in his face softened almost imperceptibly.
“You made this?” he asked, gesturing to the food.
“Yes,” I admitted, feeling awkward under his intense gaze. Those amber eyes seemed to see right through me, carrying that particular Alpha possessiveness that never failed to make my skin tingle.

“I noticed you didn’t eat at the event, so I thought you might be hungry.”
Brad’s eyes flickered to the tray, then back to me.
“Join me.” He gestured to the chair across from his desk

I hesitated. I hadn’t planned on eating with him, just delivering the food. But refusing an Alpha’s invitation
– especially one that sounded suspiciously like an order – seemed unwise.
I sat down across from him, placing the tray between us. I realized too late that I’d only brought one set of utensils, assuming he’d eat alone.
Brad finished whatever document he was reviewing, then moved to sit closer to me.
I watched in shock as he picked up the knife I had just used to cut my sandwich and used it to slice the remaining half for himself. This was the same man who once couldn’t stand the thought of sharing utensils with anyone. Yet here he was, using my fork to spear a piece of beef without hesitation.
“Is the sandwich good?” he asked, eyes never leaving me as he took a bite.
I nodded, my mouth full of food. His intense gaze made me swallow too quickly, and I started choking. Before I could reach for water, Brad was handing me his glass. I drank from it without thinking, from the same spot his lips had touched.
We ate in companionable silence for a while. I couldn’t help noticing how Brad seemed to savor each bite, as if the simple meal I’d prepared was some gourmet feast.
“Thank you…” I hesitated, “for the coat.”
Brad’s eyes met mine. “You drank all my water,” he observed instead of acknowledging my thanks.
“Oh! I’m sorry,” I flushed with embarrassment. “I can get you more-”
“It’s okay, Elle,” he said dryly, but there was no malice in his tone. If anything, his eyes seemed almost…
amused?

The next morning, I gathered my things for the medical center. I’d chosen a light cotton-blend outfit – one of the few pieces I’d brought from the human community. Something comfortable for what would likely be a long day of tests and questions.

I stepped into the hallway. To my surprise, Brad was coming up the corridor, looking refreshed in casual but expensive clothes. He wasn’t dressed for the office.
‘Morning,” I offered politely.
“Morning,” he replied.
An awkward silence fell between us. I couldn’t think of anything to say.
Brad’s nostrils flared slightly as he caught the scent of the appointment papers. “You’re going for the pregnancy check-up today?”
“Yes,” I confirmed, surprised he’d noticed. “I was going to ask for a driver to take me.”
Brad’s eyebrow arched slightly. “A driver won’t be necessary,” he said, “I’ll take you myself.”

The readers' comments on the novel: After One Night with the Alpha (Brad and Elle)
Not sure how the story ended without completing the circle on what happened to Sophia and Lester. That loop was just left hanging... what happened with the Blair contract of having to married Raymond? All Eleanor wanted was a piece of Rayne industries?...
