After One Night with the Alpha (Brad and Elle) novel Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Elle’s POV

The next morning, I sat across from Brad at the breakfast table, both of us locked in uncomfortable silence. Neither of us had spoken a word since sitting down. The only sounds were the gentle clink of silverware against china and the occasional rustle as someone reached for something.

Last night, Brad hadn’t returned to the master bedroom. We were back to sleeping in separate rooms, and

honestly, I was relieved.

I needed space. I couldn’t face him, couldn’t process what our relationship had become.

I kept my eyes fixed on my plate, methodically cutting my food into smaller and smaller pieces. What was there to say anyway? The air between us felt heavy yet fragile, like a soap bubble that might burst at the slightest touch.

“Do you even know how to play golf?” Brad suddenly broke the silence.

I looked up, surprised. His amber eyes studied me carefully over the rim of his coffee cup.

“Guess I’ll just be watching from the sidelines,” I replied, relieved to find a neutral topic. “and I know I can’t do anything strenuous, but some light walking is actually beneficial for the baby.”

Brad nodded thoughtfully. “Make sure you rest when you need to,” he said, his eyes briefly meeting mine.

“Don’t push yourself.”

“I will,” I promised, a small wave of warmth washing over me at his concern, despite everything that had

happened.

We finished our meal in silence, though the atmosphere felt slightly less tense. When Brad set down his utensils with the precision I’d come to expect from him I knew breakfast was officially over.

“I’ve finished,” he announced, rising from his chair with characteristic precision. “We should prepare to

leave.”

The staff immediately moved to clear his dishes. I quickly finished the last few bites of my food and followed him out of the dining room, my mind already cing ahead to what the day would bring.

As I walked behind Brad, I wondered how I should act a the golf course. I knew nothing about the sport, but I was determined not to embarrass him. As his mate, I had a role to play.

In the car, we sat at a comfortable distance from each her in the spacious back seat. Brad immediately pulled out his phone and began answering emails, his fingers moving rapidly across the screen. I turned to look out the window, watching the landscape change as we drove deeper into the wealthy district of

Moonshade Bay.

“Raymond Carter is bringing his team today,” Brad stated without looking up from his phone, fingers still moving across the screen. “We’ll be finalizing the collaboration details.”

I nodded.

Brad finally looked up, his expression unreadable. “He insists your part of this. Don’t disappear into the background,” he added, finally looking up. “Remember your position. You’re my mate-act accordingly.”

The car pulled up to the entrance of Moonshade Bay Golf Club, and I gasped involuntarily. The sprawling property was breathtaking-lush green lawns stretching as far as I could see, elegant buildings with floor- to-ceiling windows, and staff members in crisp uniform ready to attend to every need.

“This is Moonshade Bay’s most exclusive golf establishment,” Brad explained as we exited the vehicle. “The

Rayne family has owned it for generations.”

Of course they did. I tried not to look too overwhelmed as I followed Brad inside. The club was divided into eight distinct sections, with the Rayne family having exclusive rights to one entire area. Each section had its own facilities-private courses, relaxation areas, hot springs, dining, and massage services. Small electric carts shuttled members between different areas

Martha escorted me to the ladies’ changing room, where I changed into golf attire that had been prepared for me comfortable pants and a breathable top that accommodated my slightly growing belly.

Looking in the mirror, I took a deep breath. “You can do this,” I whispered to myself. “Just smile, be polite,

and don’t embarrass Brad.”

When I emerged from the changing room, Brad was waiting in the reception area. He’d changed into a pristine white golf outfit that made him look even more devastatingly handsome than usual. I couldn’t help but notice how other female werewolves in the vicinity kept stealing glances at him. The casual attire

did nothing to diminish his commanding presence.

He looked up as I approached, his eyes briefly scanning my appearance. Something flickered in his expression-approval, perhaps?

“Sorry if I took too long to change,” I said, feeling suddenly self-conscious.

Brad’s eyes softened slightly. “Raymond will be arriving shortly,” he said, his voice low. “Remember, don’t feel obligated to follow us around the entire course. Take breaks when you need to.”

Before I could respond, a sleek black Bentley pulled up outside. Unlike Brad’s convoy of eight vehicles, Raymond’s arrival seemed deliberately understated.

Raymond Carter stepped out, exuding confidence and power that rivaled Brad’s. In an instant, I could see that half the attention in the room had shifted from Brad to this newcomer. They were evenly matched in

presence and charisma.

“Raymond appears to be in excellent spirits today,” Brad observed as the man approached.

“How could I not be?” Raymond replied with practiced charm, shaking Brad’s hand. “Being hosted by the illustrious Rayne couple would brighten anyone’s day.”

Then he turned to me, extending his hand. “Mrs. Rayne, he said with a smile that reached his eyes, “that outfit complements you beautifully.”

“You’re too kind, Mr. Carter,” I responded with a polite smile, taking his hand.

The moment our fingers touched, something strange happened. Raymond’s smile froze, and a peculiar expression crossed his face. He recovered quickly, releasing my hand with practiced smoothness, but I’d seen it-that flash of recognition, as if touching me had triggered something unexpected.

Brad had been watching our interaction closely, his eyes missing nothing.

“The weather couldn’t be more perfect,” I interjected, breaking the strange tension. “The sun has warmth without being harsh. Perhaps you two should start with a few warm-up rounds? I’ve heard Mr. Carter is quite accomplished on the green-you might finally have found a worthy challenger, Brad.”

I smiled teasingly at Brad, adding, “After all, you’ve bee lamenting the lack of real competition for weeks.”
