After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World novel Chapter 1748

Chapter 1748: Alterran Mercenary Hall! (Part 1)

Althea realized that Volohov and Sheila could very well stay there for a long time, and that she could leave the research to them.

In fact, Althea had also wanted to stay for a bit longer, but she knew she had stayed long enough. At the very least, she still had to go to the other building.

The next place she checked out was the Mercenary Hall. By the time she left the Sanctuary, it was already at an odd time (she sent her family a message, of course), so the queue was not that long anymore.

The Alterran Mercenary Hall was designed for the comfort of the clients, whether those for-departure or for-arrival, as well as to serve as the brilliant first impression of the latter.

As such, she didn’t hold back with the design of this one. It had wide spans, big intricate columns, marble counters, and velvety furniture. Even the mission board looked very high-quality.

Even the small food court at the side only served mid to upper-tier food, which would still be quite affordable to aborigines who were used to more expensive food that tasted bad.

Speaking of the food stalls, since there were limited slots to avoid a marketplace ambiance, they chose concessionaires that would not conflict with each other, each one serving a purpose.

For example, the first one was a sandwich shop. Sandwiches were filling, easy-to-eat food for those who had arrived and were very tired and hungry. They could also be taken on-the-go for people who wanted to take a last-minute snack elsewhere.

The sandwich shop that sold about five different flavors, carefully chosen for operational efficiency and for taste.

There was the classic ham and cheese if one wanted the salty and creamy taste, chicken salad/mayo for mild and savory, tuna salad for a bit of briny taste, Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato sandwich for crunchy and smoky, and grilled cheese flavor for gooey and warm.

For drinks, there was a juice store, which also sold fruit shakes. It offered a mix of Terran and Xenoan fruits, and some were mixed. Who’d have thought that Xenoan Gouji fruit worked really well with strawberries?

And for dessert, there was a crepe shop with about five flavors to choose from as well.

Chocolate and banana flavor was a bestseller and always a safe choice; strawberry and cream for fresh, bright, and visually appealing; mango and cream was a tropical crowd-pleaser; cookies and cream for a sweet and crunchy option; and Gugu bird, Mushroom, and cream sauce for the savory option.

Each store had their own areas, separated by partitions, and they also had some light seating in front.

These were all quite a bit more expensive compared to the outside, but still very affordable.

Besides, anyone who could afford to go through the Hall could not be poor. At the very least, they’d be able to splurge on affordable food on Alterra’s lands.

The Level 1 Mercenary Hall only had one floor by default. Other than the mission boards, the other default area was the concierge, which usually had wooden counters, but was customized to be made of marble.

They already hired people to handle this place and welcome the new arrivals. They would go in 3 shifts.

Of course, the Mercenary Hall would still work even if they didn’t assign anyone there. However, having someone to assist would greatly increase efficiency and the assignment of the right missions to the right people.

They would also serve as informants for the Intelligence Department, reporting suspicious or special activities from anyone who used it.

The mission board at the center was large and as big as several grown men hugging a trunk. It had a system surface like the ones in the Center.

This was where people could take a look at the available missions and set their own. Of course, all for a fee.

When posting missions, one could set the price. They also had to pay an upfront fee of what would be the mercenary’s down payment, as well as the mercenary hall’s share.

Missions would be kept for a week. If one wanted to extend the mission for a longer time, then they’d have to pay the upfront as many times as they extended.

This also meant that Alterra probably wouldn’t be calling on many mercenaries for assistance during wars. After all, they already had plenty of those walking around the territory! It was not cost-effective to hire from the hall if that was their purpose.
