After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World novel Chapter 1749

Chapter 1749: Alterran Mercenary Hall! (Part 2)

In a few days, the Grandmaster Hoffen was turning 130 years old, which was kind-of a milestone date. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

She had been planning a surprise birthday party for him for a few weeks now, and she had to say she was disappointed the surprise was ruined.

As for why it was a surprise, coming from someone who really didn’t care for it (and despite Grandmaster Hoffen looking like someone who would find it troublesome), Althea had a feeling that he actually might like such a thing.

Even now, even if he looked indifferent, one could see with his slightly flushed face and continuous tapping of his knee, showing that he was actually a bit excited for it.

Well, it wasn’t too bad. He was happy regardless.

In fact, those people probably didn’t mean to blurt out the surprise. She had a guess that it was someone from the pharmacy team. Whenever something non-profession-related happens, their mouths get loose.

Further, since it was in the territory of the Research Center, where everyone was already under oath, some people tended to be a bit careless (since they were mentally tired from having to keep their mouths shut outside).

Somehow, the party probably blurted it out while people were preparing gifts.

Althea sighed and headed to the mission board, looking curiously at the missions posted so far. Considering that the Hall had literally just been opened, there were already quite a number of new missions.

The priority in the list was missions from Alterra, and then followed by the rest of the world’s, so it was easy to see that there were already dozens sent out just from Alterra alone.

They were mostly escort missions, she took note, but it was probably a mission to get people from their own territory directly to Alterra.

Speaking of this, she had added in the Rules about the visa requirements, and naturally, everyone heading through the array would also undergo it unless they were fine to be tagged as suspicious individuals.

Other than those, the Alterrans themselves really didn’t have many requirements for mercenaries, though she reckoned that’d change soon when they started travelling far and wide. She kind of looked forward to when that’d happen.

She wondered when it’d be her turn to use this...

While she was in thought, she heard her master stand up. "Ah, I got the acceptance."

"For materials?"

"Those were already confirmed some time ago. This one’s a shallow mission."

Shallow missions referred to the missions taking advantage of the loophole to use the Hall’s teleportation arrays. Of course, the cost was massive, but money was never a problem with the Grandmaster. It could also be done very, very few times a year, because of the Hall’s in-built debugging functions.

She curiously watched as her master clicked on the panel and headed straight to the door to the array. He himself could not go in, but he was there to greet them well.

Soon, the light died out, and a person emerged. It was an old white-haired man with an afro hair and dark skin. The face was blank for a moment, though his eyebrows rose high when he saw the Grandmaster.

"Oh?" he said, looking around the unusually-designed Hall, "So this is where you’ve been, eh?"

"This is Cheman, he’s a Class B Alchemist," Hoffen said to Althea with a casual tone. On the other hand, he then introduced Althea to the other with a bright smile on his face. "This is my one and only apprentice."

This introduction seemed to have intrigued the dark-skinned alchemists.

"Nice to meet you!" he said, showing off his white teeth. "I can’t believe he’d get an apprentice in his lifetime!! My condolences."
