Teresa crazy talk sounded exactly like a certain volatile man Louisa knew all too well.

Louisa almost laughed out loud. What kind of life was she living? A volatile man waiting for her after work, and now a volatile woman at work?

She looked Teresa up and down with a measured gaze. “I truly wonder what’s in your head–or maybe nothing. Do you always assume women can only rely on men and have no value of their own? I’m curious how far a brainless woman like you will get.”

With that, she gave Teresa a contemptuous smile and walked straight back to her office, blowing her bangs upward with a forceful puff in exasperation.

That’s the scene Marlee walked in on. “Ms. Forbes, what’s wrong?” she asked, puzzled.

“Nothing much, just completely alienated my boss again,” Louisa replied.

Marlee looked confused, but Louisa waved it off. “Never mind that. Did you compile those wage statistics I asked you to get from the workers?”

Marlee immediately placed a thick stack of data on her desk. “I checked everything. Their cliff–like salary drop happened in the last six

months. I printed out their entire year’s payroll records and analyzed them.” She pointed to specific figures.

“For just half a year, these six workers had a total of one hundred thousand dollars withheld from them.”

Louisa flipped through the data while asking, “Did you find out who took this money?”

Meanwhile, Teresa stormed into Julian’s office without knocking.

Julian was standing at his desk reviewing a document with Teddy. Seeing her sudden intrusion, his expression darkened. “Don’t you know

how to knock?”

Teresa had come concerned about his injury, but his cutting attitude stabbed at her heart.

“If Louisa came in without knocking, would you speak to her the same way?” she couldn’t help asking.

Julian’s face grew colder. “This is my personal business. If you’re here to make a scene, get out!”

He rarely used such a tone with anyone, even subordinates, and almost never used the word “get out.”

Teresa’s heart ached terribly, her eyes immediately reddening. “Aren’t you going to ask why I came? I heard you were hurt, and I was

Far from being touched, Julian’s tone remained icy. “I’m fine. You can leave now.”

‘I need to see for myself!” Teresa rushed forward, pushing Teddy aside, attempting to unbutton Julian’s shirt.

Julian grabbed her wrist and flung her onto the sofa, his expression furious. “Have you had enough of this nonsense?”

“I just want to see your injury. Is that not allowed?” Teresa shouted, tears streaming down her face.

Julian found her behavior irritating but tried to remain patient. “I’ve already told you I’m fine. Can you please leave now?”

“Then why won’t you let me look?”

“Don’t you understand the concept of physical boundaries between men and women?”

“Boundaries?” Teresa gave a bitter laugh. When she’d gotten close, she’d smelled medicinal ointment on him–the same scent she’d

detected on Louisa earlier.

She looked at him through tear–filled eyes. “If it’s about boundaries, why was Louisa allowed to see? She even touched you, didn’t she?”

Julian’s gaze turned completely cold. “I don’t need to explain my personal matters to you. Teddy, call security to escort her out.”

“Yes, sir!” Teddy immediately phoned security.

Teresa stared at him in disbelief. “I just came because I was worried and wanted to check your injury, and you’re having me thrown out? I stayed in the investment department for you, endured so much for you, and now because of some Louisa…”

Her voice turned venomous. “What’s so great about her? She’s trash who got involved with other men before her divorce was even

finalized, she’s-”

“Shut up!” Julian roared.

Teresa gazed at him through tear–filled eyes, looking utterly pitiful. “You can’t stand hearing a single negative word about her, can you?”

Julian had no intention of explaining anything to her. With a cold face, he said, “If you feel the Tudor Group has mistreated you, go back to being a rich girl. I don’t think you’re suited to be the Deputy Director of Investment anymore. Teddy, see her out.”

“Yes, sir!” Teddy approached Teresa with a resigned expression. “Ms. Hughes, please.”

Teresa glared at him fiercely, “I don’t need you to throw me out! I’ll leave on my own!”

As she left, she gave Julian one last hate–filled look. “You brought this slut into the company to cause trouble everywhere, even getting yourself hurt. Aren’t you afraid I’ll tell your parents about all this?”

“Do whatever you want,” Julian replied coldly.

After Teresa stumbled away, Teddy looked concerned. “Mr. Tudor, I don’t think she’s just making empty threats this time. She’ll probably go to the Chairman and his wife with all sorts of stories. They’ve always doted on her…”

‘Let her say what she wants.” Julian didn’t want to discuss her anymore. He shifted topics immediately. “Have you found out who’s been embezzling funds from the Oakridge Commons project?”

Teddy shook his head. “This project isn’t managed by headquarters but by one of our subsidiaries. Many people have been involved, and the person in charge has changed several times. It’s quite difficult to investigate.”

“Then stop looking into it. Give all the relevant materials to Louisa and let her handle it.

“But there are so many people involved, and data from various sources needs to be examined. Ms. Forbes only has Marlee to help her.

Won’t this be too exhausting?”

Julian gave him a look that said “figure it out yourself“. ‘Is that your concern?”

Downstairs in the investment department, Louisa and Marlee sat facing each other in the Group Seven office with four stacks of documents on the table–two for each of them.

As Louisa finished her last file, Marlee looked up in shock. ‘Ms. Forbes, I’ve only gotten through my second file, and you’ve already

finished all fifteen?”

“I’ve always been a fast reader. Don’t try to keep up with me,‘ Louisa said, already reaching for the files Marlee hadn’t yet reviewed.

Two hours later, they had gone through all the materials.

Louisa identified three suspicious individuals and handed their files to Marlee. “Tomorrow, investigate all activities of these three people over the past year. If you don’t have sufficient clearance, ask Mr. Young for help.”

“What about you?”

“Identifying who’s embezzling funds is just the first step. We still have a lot to do to sell the Oakridge Commons houses.” Louisa gave her a reassuring smile. “Don’t rush–we’ll take it one step at a time.”

“Understood.” Marlee took the three files and put them in her bag.

Louisa checked the time. “It’s past nine. Let’s go. They packed up their things.

As they stepped out, they were hit by a strong smell of alcohol in the darkened investment department. Marlee glanced around curiously and spotted a stumbling figure passing by.
