Chapter 137
Louisa froze completely.
What did Julian mean? He couldn’t possibly be asking her to undress him, could he?
Fine, she’d do it. He saved her life after all. Rather than dawdling, might as well get it over with quickly.
She reached out to start, but immediately hit another roadblock. She needed to face him directly to undo his buttons.
But they were in a car, and to be level with him, she couldn’t crouch or stand in front of him–shed have to sit.
On his lap? That would be utterly weird.
Julian watched her studying him with obvious internal conflict and sighed. “Ms. Forbes, what exactly are you trying to do?”
“I’m trying to figure out how to change positions to make it more comfortable,” Louisa replied thoughtfully.
“And what comfortable position did you have in mind?”
Louisa suddenly realized how that sounded and nearly choked. “Not what you’re thinking! I just want to take your clothes off
The moment the words left her mouth, she realized that sounded even worse.
Julian chuckled softly. “Lower your voice. No need to get so excited.”
Louisa went silent. Excited? Her? But Julian’s resigned expression seemed to confirm her supposedly wicked thoughts.
She decided explaining would only make things more awkward. ‘Can’t you just unbutton it yourself?”
Julian nodded. “Fine.”
Louisa looked in irritation. If he was going to be so agreeable, what was she agonizing over?
He unbuttoned his shirt, and she quickly removed it, her movements somewhat rough.
“I got injured saving you, and this is how you repay me?” Julian commented.
Louisa stayed quiet. She didn’t know how to explain, so she didn’t try. She took the medicine and applied it to his injured shoulder, her movements swift, just wanting to finish as quickly as possible.
“Rub it in,” his voice suddenly came again.

“Rub it in?” Louisa was startled. Where? She instinctively looked at his back.
His face might be elegant and handsome, but his back was all masculine contours and defined lines.
The deep groove of his spine ran like a profound canyon down his back, emanating strength. She suddenly remembered how this very body had held her protectively in his arms earlier…
She found herself distracted, swallowing hard.
“I asked you to rub the medicine in,” Julian said. “What are you thinking about now?”
“Oh, sure.” So that was what he meant. She snapped out of her daze.
Julian heard her tone and smirked. “Ms. Forbes, you sound disappointed?”
“How am I disappointed?” To sound more convincing, she emphatically added, ‘I’m not disappointed!”
“Alright, I heard you. You’re not disappointed. You’re very satisfied.”
Louisa went silent again. Why did it feel like they were on completely different wavelengths?
Whatever. She placed her hand directly on his injured shoulder. His muscles were smooth and firm. She had to use considerable strength
to knead them.
“Why is your body so hard?” she complained quietly.
“You prefer something softer?”
“No, I just-
“Neither hard nor soft,” Julian laughed, “Ms. Forbes, why are you so difficult to please?”
Once again, silence. Louisa felt she shouldn’t have said anything at all.
She focused on massaging him. When her strength faltered, she placed her other hand on his opposite shoulder for leverage and continued rubbing. Her somewhat heavy breath escaped her body, brushing against his skin.
In that moment, the car was utterly silent except for their breathing and heartbeats. The surrounding air began to feel unbearably intimate.
Louisa felt she needed to say something; otherwise, she couldn’t handle this strange atmosphere much longer. Her legs were already starting to feel weak.
“Um, about today’s incident-”

Do what you think is best.” His casual words cut off her sentence,
Louisa didn’t know what to say anymore. Time seemed to pass incredibly slowly, as if centuries had gone by.
I have no strength left,” Louisa finally admitted, completely drained as she knelt on the seat. “If this isn’t enough, you should go to the
hospital.”
Julian chuckled lightly. “It’s good enough.” He slowly put his shirt back on and pulled out two tissues from the box. “Wipe your hands?
But Louisa didn’t even have the energy to do that.
Julian glanced at her once–clean, delicate hands, now reddened from exertion, and laughed softly. “Really wore yourself out?
“All because of you,” she mumbled, glaring at him. Getting treated at a hospital would have been so much better. Why did she have to do
this herself?
She didn’t even realize how alluring her gaze was at that moment.
Julian’s heart softened, his eyes becoming deep and intense. “Fine, it’s my fault.” He took her hand and placed it on his leg, using the tissue to wipe it himself.
Louisa had no energy left to resist, allowing him to clean her hands.
By the time they returned to the company, that intimate atmosphere still hadn’t fully dissipated. She hurriedly separated from Julian; being with him made her feel like she couldn’t breathe.
On her way back to the investment department, she felt a bit better, her cheeks not quite as flushed. But that feminine charm was impossible to hide completely.
Teresa was just heading out when they passed each other. Something caught her attention, and she shot Louisa a sharp, jealous glare.
“Ms. Hughes, is something wrong?” Louisa asked, annoyed.
Teresa’s gloomy gaze fixed on Louisa’s alluring face that seemed to glow with vitality.
“So this is the face you used to seduce Julian?” she spat venomously. “Making him get hit by something at the construction site for your, sake? Louisa, let me tell you–if anything serious happens to Julian, I’ll have your life!”
Louisa looked at her like she was insane. “Are you sick in the head?”
Previously, she would have shown Teresa some courtesy and respect as her superior. Now, Louisa realized this Teresa wasn’t worthy of respect at all.

Teresa hadn’t expected her to talk back. Her expression darkened further as she lowered her voice threateningly, “Don’t think you’re safe just because Julian is protecting you right now. He’s just playing with you.”
She paused, putting on a sinister smile. “A divorced woman like you with no background–let’s see how long he’ll protect you. Once he gets
tired of you, you won’t even know what hit you.”
