Chapter 141
After hanging up the phone, Louisa sat in silence. Truthfully, since the day he’d nearly raped her in the car, she’d been afraid of him.
But if she wanted a divorce, she couldn’t avoid seeing him forever.
This step had to be taken.
She decided to meet him in person. Taking the morning off work, she tucked a knife and pepper spray into her bag before leaving–just in case.
It had been over a month since she’d last visited the Capulet Group Building.
This empire she and George had built together–once her perceived lifelong safe harbor–now felt like entering a past life.
Familiar faces greeted her politely as she passed, and she nodded back courteously, taking the elevator to George’s floor.
Jared spotted her and approached eagerly. “Mrs. Capulet, you’re here!”
“I’m divorced from him,” Louisa replied. “That title belongs to someone else now. Please don’t use it.”
Jared fell silent, making a welcoming gesture. “Please go in. Mr. Capulet is waiting.”
“Thank you,” she replied, treating everyone as strangers now.
She knocked at George’s office door. There was no response, but it opened quickly–George himself had come to answer.
His cloudy eyes brightened at the sight of her. “It’s so good to see you, honey.”
Louisa didn’t correct him this time, but she couldn’t bring herself to smile politely. She simply nodded coolly.
George’s heart ached at her coldness.
He stepped aside to let her in. The office remained exactly as she remembered–everything arranged as it had been when she worked there. On his desk burned the mint–scented candle she had always favored.
Louisa discreetly glanced around, noticing several project files scattered across his desk–all major Capulet Group ventures.
No wonder he hadn’t been home lately. The company was clearly facing serious issues.
She sat down on the sofa.
“Honey, what would you like to drink? Coffee? Or tea?” George asked cautiously.
‘Don’t bother,” she said, getting straight to the point. “What did you want to discuss?”
Pain flashed across George’s eyes. “Can’t we just make some small talk?”
Louisa watched him warily. “George, you didn’t call me here to play some kind of trick, did you?”
Her gaze wounded him again. Since that day on the mountain, her eyes had shown nothing but fear and caution when she looked at him. It pained him

deeply. He must have truly terrified her.
He sat beside her, covering his face with his hands–pain, regret, and reluctance all mingling together.
Finally, he wiped his eyes roughly and looked at her with reddened eyes. “Last night, Caden came to see me. Vivian has had a serious breakdown in prison…”
“What does that have to do with me?‘ she asked coldly.
‘The Capulet Group is facing some difficulties, George explained. “Caden has offered to collaborate, which would help solve a major problem for me. But his condition is that Vivian be released.”
Louisa had anticipated this. She nodded. “That sounds perfect. You and I can finalize our divorce, I can reconcile with Vivian, and you two can have your win–win cooperation. It’s all upside for you, no downside.”
“How is this a win–win?‘ George’s tone suddenly turned sharp. “I’m losing my wife–the person I love most.”
Louisa laughed bitterly. “George, you didn’t lose me over this. You lost me the first day you cheated.”
“But I know I was wrong…” He was circling back to the same old argument.
Louisa’s tone remained calm. “George, do you remember when David Foster was charged with attempted rape?”
George thought for a long time before recalling the name. It was a project Louisa had worked hard to secure, only for Vivian to take it and then botch it. In the end, he’d had to ask Louisa to step in and fix it.
He was confused at first. Then realization dawned, and he looked at her in disbelief. “You’re mentioning him because… the woman he tried to rape was…
was you?”
His last words came out trembling.
‘Finally, you realize. You never took it seriously, did you?” Louisa gave a small smile before continuing, “Yes, it was me.
“You knew my stomach was damaged from drinking for the company, that I couldn’t handle alcohol. But that night, you were too busy shielding Vivian, who couldn’t drink, while you let everyone pour drinks for me.
“Later, worried she wouldn’t be safe going home alone, you left with her–leaving me with David, that monster. A monster who had defiled countless girls, as you well knew. But you pretended not to know.
“That night, David tried to rape me. He almost succeeded–he really almost succeeded, do you understand? I barely escaped with my life. Afterward, I was hospitalized with a bleeding stomach.”
Her tone was light, but George felt his heart being ripped apart.
‘Later, in your office, when I discovered your affair, you slapped me for Vivian’s sake. Do you remember? I injured my back that day.
“You wouldn’t let me go to work. You locked me in the room. That day, I nearly died in the fire.
“Not to mention later, when your lover and your mother conspired against me, nearly ruining me…”
One by one, she listed incidents George had overlooked. Now as she recounted them, she felt calm.
