Chapter 158
Louisa tried to sit up but discovered her hands and feet were bound with tape, rendering her immobile.
Just then, the crisp sound of footsteps approached. A petite figure stood before her, looking down w
with contempt.
Though Louisa couldn’t make out her face clearly, she knew who it was.
Vivian.
Abandaning her struggle, Louisa settled on the floor, leaning against the edge of the sofa,
Even bound, she maintained a commanding posture, her legs bent and arms resting on her knees. She gave
Vivian a cold glance.
*Still so arrogant, even now? Vivian sneered, sitting in a chair across from her. She toyed with a lighter in her hand, speaking with an eerie slowness. “T
waited three whole days to catch you successfully.”
Louisa didn’t respond. The current Vivian was like a comered demon, capable of any madness.
She couldn’t risk provoking her further. She needed to find a way to save herself, or at least buy time until Julian arrived.
She wasn’t sure why she had this thought, but instinctively felt he would come.
Seeing Louisa’s silence, Vivian assumed she was frightened. She laughed with a high–pitched voice, “Are you scared, Ms. Forbes? Well, you should be. If this lighter accidentally falls or catches you, you’ll instantly become a fireball”
As she spoke, she flicked the lighter repeatedly. The small flame flickered like hellfire, illuminating Vivian’s distorted face.
Suddenly, she grabbed Louisa’s hair, yanking her head back, and brought the lit lighter close to her face,
Her previously light tone became vicious. “You bitch! How dare you compete with me? George is mine! Mine! You can’t win him from me!
Her eyes glinted with madness. “After you’re burned to a crisp, he’ll be disgusted just looking at your face. How could he possibly miss you then?”
Before Louisa could react, Vivian burst into maniacallaughter, as if consumed by ultimate madness.
When the finished, she spoke in a condescending tone, “But Louisa, I’m a kind person. Just beg me for mercy or please me like a puppy–maybe |
you.”
Ill spare
Louisa remained silent–not speaking, not begging, not showing weakness.
Seeing her defiance, Vivian kicked her furiously. “Can’t you see I’m giving you a change? A chance to live! Why won’t you take it?
Π
Her voice rose with each word. “Or would you rather die? Do you ink 171 let you die pracefully? I won!!
“Ill have someone cape you first, then cut your face piece by piece, slice your flesh to feed to dogs, and finally
inally burn you to aches.”
Louisa smiled faintly. She raised her eyes to look at Vivian. “Murder is a crime. If you kill me, you’ll pay with your life. Is it worth it?
This calm, measured response momentarily stunned Vivian. How could she remain so composed when she was at death’s door? Shouldn’t she be terrified,

desperately begging for her life?
But Vivian saw none of that, which infuriated her. She kicked Louisa again, screaming hysterically: “I told you to beg me! Reg me now!
Louisa still refused, enduring the pain without pleading.
So Vivian kicked her repeatedly, mercilessly. “You bitch, I can’t stand you! I’m going to kill you! But who can prove I did it? 111 burn you with this house, erase all evidence. Even if the whole world suspects me, who will have proof?
“Afterward, your husband will be mine, everything you had will be mine. We’ll rebuild this place, get married and have children over your ashes, Inving
happily ever after.”
Yes, you could have been happy without any effort, Louisa said quietly. “Why risk your life for this?”
“What do you mean? Vivian paused her assault, confused.
Louisa closed her eyes briefly against the pain, then spoke calmly. “Did you know George and I were discussing divorce? You two being together was

inevitable.
f you kill me, you’ll be burdened with murder, and as for him? Since I died because of him, he’ll live with guilt for the rest of his life. Hell forever mourn
me as his deceased wife. Is that what you want?”
Shut up! Shut up! Vivian screamed frantically. “George is completely disgusted with you! He has no interest in you whatsoever. He says he wants to spend
every minute with me.”
Her voice grew more desperate. “We travel together, we make love constantly. He says only I can ignite his passion, that he lost interest in you long ago. He won’t miss you–he loves only me, only me!”
She shouted the last words with all her might, as if volume could make them true.
Louisa smiled faintly. “Yes, you’re the only one he loves, Wouldn’t my divorce perfectly clear the way for you two?
“If you had continued to seem pitiful, maintained your dignified act instead of joining forces with Hazel against me, George would have increasingly favored
“But you lost your patience. Now you want to burn me to death in his home. Are you trying to ensure he never forgets me for the rest of his life!”
Vivian was speechless, her breathing becoming erratic.
Was that true? Had she been too hasty? Had she made a terrible mistake?
