Louisa couldn’t find her words. Was Julian still mad at her?
:-
A whole night had passed and a new day had begun–how could he still be angry?
She wondered if it wasn’t her fault at all. Maybe he’d fought with his boyfriend and was just taking it out on her.
Not wanting to put Teddy in an awkward position, she conceded, “I’ll come get them myself then.*
Teddy acknowledged her and ended the call.

When Louisa arrived on the 36th floor, she could feel the chilly atmosphere. In the secretarial office, everyone was buried in their work,
no one daring to speak more than necessary.
Teddy emerged from Julian’s office and approached her. “Did you have a fight with the CEO?” he asked.
“No,” Louisa replied. She had no idea why Julian was upset, and certainly didn’t consider their interaction a fight.
Teddy was baffled. “Then why is he angry? Since yesterday afternoon when he returned to the office, he’s been in a terrible mood. Everyone who enters his office goes in smiling and comes out looking devastated.”
“That doesn’t mean it’s my fault, does it?‘ Louisa was perplexed.
“If not you, then who?” Teddy stared at her like she was some alien creature.
Yesterday she’d answered a call and left to meet someone. Julian had suddenly moved his lunch meeting to the same location. He rescued
her at a crucial moment.
She had clung to him desperately, mentioned wanting his home–cooked food, and he’d dropped his important work to make her a meal- only for her to send him back to the office in a foul mood.
Julian’s every emotion seemed tied to her, and she still didn’t think it was her problem? Could anyone really be this oblivious?
Teddy sighed. “Louisa, please, just smooth things over with him; say something nice. Don’t make the rest of us suffer too, okay?”
Louisa couldn’t help but laugh at his request. “Wait, why should I be the one to appease him? Maybe he’s upset with his boyfriend. Shouldn’t his boyfriend be the one comforting him?
“What did you say? His boyfriend?” Teddy nearly choked, looking at her in disbelief. “Who told you he has a boyfriend?”
“Didn’t he say it himself? That he doesn’t like women, Louisa replied.

“He said he doesn’t like women, but he never said he likes men. Where did you get the idea he has a boyfriend?
I saw it myself. Nicholas Getty–the boyfriend.”
Teddy was completely dumbfounded. Just as he was about to respond, a cool voice sounded from behind them: Tmpressive. Ms. Forbes. 1
had no idea you were so talented–not only at burning bridges but also at spreading rumors. Quite the multitasker.
“Should I get you a little stool and some snacks so you can gossip with the neighborhood ladies at the community entrance”
Julian’s words were sharp as venom. Teddy quickly slipped away.
Louisa couldn’t escape. Forced to meet those handsome yet ice–cold eyes, she found herself speechless.
She’d never been one to gossip about others behind their backs. And the first time she did, she got caught.
Besides, he was the one who said he didn’t like women, and now he was accusing her of spreading rumors?
She hadn’t told anyone else–just Teddy. And as his personal assistant, Teddy knew what should and shouldn’t be repeated.
Fortunately, Julian didn’t pursue the matter further. His face expressionless, he returned to his office. Louisa followed behind him, head
lowered as she entered.
She gathered the stack of files from the desk without saying a word and turned to leave.
Julian’s expression cooled further. “There’s a charity gala tonight. You’re coming with me.”
Louisa froze. What? She wasn’t anything special to him–attending together would be strange, wouldn’t it?
She turned stiffly, forcing an awkward smile. “Mr. Tudor, that doesn’t seem appropriate…”
“Why not?” His tone was flat.
Then he raised his gaze, his eyes cool and penetrating. “Do you have other plans? Or simply don’t want to attend? Or perhaps you think someone else should accompany me?”
Was that last comment aimed at her? Chastising her for spreading rumors and speaking ill of him behind his back?
She meekly apologized, “I’m sorry, Mr. Tudor. I didn’t mean to gossip behind your back. I promise I wont do it again. And it’s not that i don’t want to go–I just have plans with someone…
“What plans?” Julian asked. His tone was casual as he picked up his tea and took a sip, appearing completely relint.
Louisa had no intention of sharing her personal business with him, so she simply replied, “It’s private.

Julian nodded without pressing further. He only asked, “Is it urgent? His tone had softened slightly.
Louisa remained silent. It was urgent, but she couldn’t say that, could she?

Avoiding his question, she tentatively suggested, ‘It’s just that I rarely attend such events. I’m afraid I might embarrass you. Mr. Yoding must have plenty of experience–why not take him?”
Julian took another sip of tea, his tone nonchalant. “I don’t like men, so for him to accompany me, he’d need gender reassignement surgery first. If you have other plans, don’t worry about it. No need to force yourself.”
Such a gentle tone paired with such venomous words. First he created an impossible situation, then softly asked if she had urgen
matters, telling her not to force herself.
She strongly suspected Julian had been setting a trap for her from the beginning. He excelled at digging pits for people, coaxing them to jump in, then circling them for a slow kill… so devious.
While mentally grumbling, she could only say, “I’m not forcing myself.”
Then, clutching the materials, she left with a dejected expression.
Teddy approached her with a beaming smile. “Seeing you like this, I feel much better.”
Louisa glared at him. “What do you mean by that?”
“Your expression means Mr. Tudor is feeling better. If he’s fine, I can relax.” Teddy’s smile widened. He’d begun to recognize the pattern
between these two.
What an infuriating comment. Suppressing the urge to stomp on his foot, Louisa smiled brightly. “Mr. Young, have you forgotten how you begged me to cover your business trip?”
Teddy thought to himself: ‘I did that to bring you two together! You should be thanking me, not blaming me!”
But Louisa didn’t know that. Her smile instantly faded. “Mr. Young, if you ever ask for my help again, don’t expect me to agree.”
She walked away with her materials.
Teddy hurried after her. “Louisa, that’s not what I meant! Don’t misunderstand me.” He couldn’t afford to offend someone who become his boss’s future wife.

Louisa smiled, both brilliantly and falsely, holding up her phone. “Fine, I’ve recorded what you said. I have evidence now–you can’t deny
it.”
Teddy’s smile collapsed. Another devious one.

After finishing work that afternoon, she prepared for the gala. Before leaving, Louisa sent Sadie a message: [Something came up unexpectedly. I can’t come over now, but let’s talk when we get home tonight.J
Sadie didn’t reply. Assuming she was busy, Louisa didn’t think much of it and headed to the parking lot to meet Julian.
