Affair
Chapter 216
Louisa angrily swatted at Julian, but he smoothly caught her hand, flashing a mischievous smile.
Just then, strange chanting drifted from the next room: Mama mia… mama mia… mama mia…”
It sounded like some kind of incantation, eerily clear as if the speaker was right beside them.
The soundproofing was clearly terrible.
Julian scanned the room and noticed an oil painting on the wall.
Walking over, he gently lifted the frame, revealing five small circular holes arranged in a flower pattern,
like vintage air vents. Candlelight from next door immediately streamed through, creating thin beams of
light.
Louisa rushed over and peered through one of the holes. She could see the entire adjacent room–an
ancient altar sat in the center, surrounded by a circle of candles.
An older woman–undoubtedly Madame Raven–sat in the middle with her eyes closed, muttering
incantations in a trance–like state.
Beside her stood a woman in a vintage robe with a hood. Even from this angle, Louisa immediately
recognized Sadie.
A lawyer pretending to be a medium’s assistant? She nearly burst out laughing watching her friend so
seriously “apprenticing” at the altar.
Unfortunately, her stifled laughter alerted the people next door.
“Someone’s there!” Madame Raven’s eyes flew open.
Sadie immediately played along with theatrical flair, “Who? Who? What little spirit dares approach? Reveal
yourself! Mama mia… mama mia…”
Her dead–serious performance nearly sent Louisa into hysterics. Thankfully, Julian reacted quickly, pushing
her head down.
She shot him an apologetic look–she’d almost blown their cover. Julian’s eyes reassured her: ‘It’s fine.‘
They held their breath, listening to movement next door. Someone was opening a door.

Cautiously raising their heads to look through the peepholes again, they saw the “medium’s assistant” leading a woman into the room–Vivian’s mother, Lily.
She carefully approached the altar, knelt on the prayer cushion, and pressed her palms together with
complete devotion. “Madame Raven, I’ve done everything you asked. Can you help my daughter now?”
Madame Raven closed her eyes and shook her head, fingers moving as if calculating something. “Hmm…
one moment. I need to consult further.”
Her voice was hoarse and heavy as she began rapidly reciting some ancient incantation, speaking too
quickly to understand.
Suddenly, her voice cut off. Her body began to convulse violently, arms and legs thrashing wildly as if
possessed by some unseen force.
Louisa found it strangely familiar–had Vivian’s seizure disorder somehow been “learned” from this
Madame Raven?
Meanwhile, Sadie held several pieces of yellowed parchment, pretending to write and draw mysterious
symbols that made no sense.
When Madame Raven finally stopped convulsing, she let out a furious roar, kicked over the incense burner, and berated Lily, “I’ve repeatedly emphasized the need for complete honesty! You dare hide things from me? Something major still haunts your daughter, and your silence–are you trying to get me killed?”
She violently spat out a mouthful of blood.
“I haven’t! I’ve told you everything!” Lily panicked, her voice trembling.
“No! You haven’t!” Madame Raven thundered back.
Sadie suddenly raised her hand, flinging her parchment papers into the air. The papers floated down around Lily’s head and face, covered in dense crimson symbols resembling witchcraft curses.
Lily stared at the symbols, her face instantly draining of color. “I didn’t! I didn’t kill you! You’re already dead–why are you still haunting me? Leave me alone! Leave my daughter alone!”
She looked terrified to the point of madness.
While Louisa found the scene oddly satisfying, she was confused–who was this “you” that Lily claimed was already dead?

Chapter 216
She turned to Julian and was surprised to find him completely unfazed, even sporting a cold smile.
“Julian, are you keeping something from me?” she whispered after a moment.
Julian sighed softly. “Yes, there’s something I haven’t told you.”
“What is it?”

He crouched down beside her, both of them sitting against the wall like two kids hiding after mischief. “While in school, Vivian caused a boy’s death and sexually assaulted a girl. She destroyed two families.”
Louisa was shocked–what kind of monster would do such things? No wonder Vivian always seemed intent
on self–destruction.
She looked at Julian with a mix of confusion and admiration. “Are you more accurate than a fortune teller?”
Julian smiled. “Want to learn?”
“Noooo.” She quickly declined–she knew that innocent question would lead nowhere good.
Turning her attention back to the scene next door, she saw Lily completely defeated, desperately begging, “Please, save my daughter. I’ll do anything you ask.”
Madame Raven remained silent, her face contorted in pain as if possessed. The candles began to flicker, the chandelier swayed, and the incense burner fell from the table with a dull thud.
An eerie voice emerged from her throat, echoing repeatedly throughout the room. “I want her dead… I want her dead…”
Lily collapsed completely, her face ashen, unable to make a sound.
Madame Raven’s voice suddenly returned to normal as she frantically told Sadie, “Child, the vengeful spirit wants to possess you! It wants to use your hands to kill Mrs. Price! Stop it!”
In the next moment, Sadie dramatically produced a butcher knife from behind her back.
Then, somehow, she dragged out a pig’s head, placed it in front of Lily, and began hacking at it wildly.
Blood and flesh splattered onto Lily’s face. She screamed and tried to escape, but her legs had turned to jelly, leaving her crawling on the floor.
Louisa watched in complete shock.

Chapter 216
“Ms. Watson doesn’t seem like a one–day apprentice… Family tradition, perhaps?” Julian couldn’t help
whispering in her ear.
Though Louisa found it amusing–it was her first time seeing Sadie act so mystical–this was her best
friend they were talking about.
She glared at Julian. “You’re the one with strange family traditions!”
