Julian couldn’t help but laugh at Louisa’s retort. He abandoned the painting, pulled her into his arms, and locked his arms around her waist with a grip so tight it felt like he might snap her in half.
“So protective of your friend?” he asked, looking down at her with a dangerous edge in his voice. “I don’t recall you ever defending your boss this way.”
Louisa fell silent. After a moment, she sighed. “If you were in danger, I’d be the first to stand between you and harm. Would that satisfy you?”
She meant it sincerely–after saving her life five times, she owed him a debt she could never repay.
Unexpectedly, Julian dismissed her offer with a cool “No.”
Louisa silently rolled her eyes. Nothing pleased him. So difficult.
“What are you cursing me for in your head now?” Julian raised an eyebrow.
“…Nothing,” Louisa replied.
If she had looked up, she would have seen the undisguised tenderness in his eyes. Unfortunately, she
missed it completely.
Next door, everything had finally quieted down.
Sadie finished hacking the pig’s head and stood catching her breath. She wiped sweat from her forehead and announced casually, “It’s done. The spirit has departed.”
She was nearly exhausted–this exorcism was more terrifying than facing criminals in court. Around her,
the scene was chaotic.
Lily, dignity forgotten, crawled on her knees to Madame Raven’s feet. “Please help me! Save my daughter, I
beg you!”
Madame Raven shook her head silently.
“You’re our only hope,” Lily’s voice trembled desperately. “I can give you money, as much as you want. Just please help us.”
“It’s impossible,” Madame Raven slowly shook her head. If you won’t tell the truth, no one can save you-

not even mountains of gold and silver.”

“I’ll tell you everything! Just give me one more chance! She was beyond pretense now, genuinely terrified.
“Then speak!” Sadie suddenly barked. “If you want to live, confess everything. Otherwise, not only will your daughter die, but we’ll all die with her!”
Each mention of “death” pierced Lily’s ears like knives.
She took a deep breath and finally stammered, “My daughter had a close friend in middle school… Then something happened, and the child died… It wasn’t my daughter’s fault, truly! She’s always been a kind,
good child.”
Lily continued, her voice breaking, “Now she has a baby and is about to marry the love of her life. But lately she can’t sleep and feels someone watching her.
“I suspect it’s her classmate’s spirit–he wrongly believes my daughter caused his death and doesn’t want her to be happy, so he haunts her.
“Please save my daughter. She deserves a lifetime of happiness…”
That final line nearly made Louisa laugh out loud from her hiding place.
A lifetime of happiness after harming so many people?
This shameless attitude was clearly hereditary.
“Still not telling the truth? You really aren’t afraid of death!” Sadie shouted, her fury reaching its peak.
Lily’s shoulders trembled with fear.
But this was a murder accusation–how could she confess to that? She wasn’t stupid.
Gritting her teeth, she insisted, “Everything I’ve told you is the absolute truth. That child misunderstood my daughter. His death had nothing to do with her.”
She pleaded, “Please, Madame Raven, help us find a way to release his spirit. I can give him money–lots
and lots of money.
“Just help send him away so he stops tormenting my daughter…”
Listening from next door, Louisa couldn’t help but scoff Torment? How many people had Vivian

tormented?
The poor boy. The poor girl. The poor families. All destroyed by her.
In the adjoining room, Sadie fixed Lily with an icy stare “You think money can buy everything? Mrs. Price, if you won’t tell the truth, go home and prepare to die. Don’t bother coming back–not that you’d live long
enough to return anyway.”
As Sadie prepared to push harder, Madame Raven suddenly raised her hand to stop her. “Child, that’s enough. A medium’s mission is compassion and salvation. We cannot watch someone die without helping.”
Hearing this, Lily’s eyes lit up. She immediately grabbed Madame Raven’s hand. “I knew you could help!
Please save my daughter!”
Madame Raven nodded solemnly, drawing out her words, “Yes… take this with you…”
She withdrew an ancient silver necklace from a wooden box nearby–the pendant was a talisman inscribed
with mystical symbols.
“This talisman has been empowered by natural energies for years. It will protect against all evil spirits. Have your daughter wear it, and she will be safe.”
“Thank you! Thank you!” Lily accepted it with both hands, cradling it like a sacred relic.
Sadie suddenly protested, “No, Master! This talisman was reserved for Mrs. Smith. Her case is also difficult -she’s already donated twenty million dollars. We must keep it for her.”
“I’d forgotten about that…” Madame Raven furrowed her brow as if just remembering. “What should we
do?”
“I can donate thirty million dollars!” Lily quickly interjected. Once something was within her grasp, she
would never let it go.
“This isn’t about money,” Sadie insisted. “Mrs. Smith is more devoted than Mrs. Price.”
After a moment of silence, Madame Raven shook her head. “No matter. This talisman is destined for Mrs.
Price. Let her have it.”
“Her heart isn’t pure. She’ll get us killed,” Sadie protested.
Madame Raven sighed. “Saving lives comes first, doesn’t it? This situation is too grave–without the

talisman, she won’t survive three days. Give it to her.”
“…Fine,” Sadie reluctantly agreed.

She turned to Lily with a cold expression. “Mrs. Price, to save your daughter’s life, she must wear this exorcism talisman against her skin at all times. If it’s removed, the evil spirit will return, and then it will
be too late.”
Lily nodded repeatedly, pressing the talisman to her chest. Her greed showed as she asked, “I understand, I’ll make sure she wears it… But what about me? If the spirit stops haunting her, might it come after me? Do you have… any other talismans?”
