Chapter 224
His words seemed to hold a mysterious power, filling Louisa with warmth and making her feel suddenly
fearless.
She wondered if it counted as being under a spell to trust her boss so completely.
The car pulled into the underground parking garage of the Tudor Group.
It was already nine–thirty–half an hour past the start of the workday. The rush hour had ended, leaving
the garage relatively empty.
Still, Louisa worried about being seen. “Mr. Tudor,” she suggested, “maybe you could wait in the car? I’ll go first, and you can follow in a couple of minutes.”
Julian raised an eyebrow. “You expect me to sit here waiting?”
“Or you could go first, and I’ll follow later.”
“What’s the matter? Embarrassed to be seen with me?”
“I… It’s not-”
“Your bridge–burning skills are improving,” he remarked dryly.
Louisa gave up. “Fine, I’m sorry. Please stop.”
She reluctantly got out of the car with him, glancing around to confirm no one was nearby. Just as she was about to relax, a car door slammed nearby.
It was Percy,
“Good morning, Mr. Tudor!” he called enthusiastically.
Julian acknowledged him with a cool nod. “Mr. Adams.”
Percy was about to say something else when he noticed Louisa. “Ms. Forbes? Did you arrive with Mr.
Tudor?”
Trapped, Louisa straightened her posture and offered Percy a professional smile. “Good morning, Mr.
Adams.”

She deliberately avoided his question.

Percy’s smile widened, the fat on his face jiggling slightly. “I’ve been wanting to thank you, Ms. Forbes, but
haven’t had the chance.”
“Thank me?” Louisa was puzzled.
“Yes, it’s quite embarrassing, really. I secured the ‘Oakridge Commons‘ project, but then it ran into major problems. Several managers tried and failed to salvage it. Then you came along and turned everything
around in just a few days. I’ve been meaning to take you to dinner to celebrate.”
His words were polite but insincere.
Louisa returned an equally insincere smile. “You’re too kind, Mr. Adams. We’re all Tudor Group employees-
I was just doing my job.”
“No need for modesty, Ms. Forbes.” Percy fell into step beside them. “Look at you now, arriving with the
CEO himself. Our president must think very highly of you.”
Louisa remained silent. The old fox was clearly fishing for information.
She glanced at Julian, silently urging him to clarify the situation.
Instead, he pretended not to notice her signal and asked, “Is there something wrong with your eye?”
Louisa suppressed a sigh. Fine. If he wouldn’t explain, she would.
She turned to Percy. “Mr. Adams, I was with Mr. Tudor because we live in the same-”
Neighborhood. But before she could finish, Julian cut in with a bland look at Percy. “Mr. Adams, whether we
live together or not isn’t really your concern, is it?”
Percy was visibly shocked. They were already living together?
Louisa was equally horrified. Why was Julian spreading rumors himself?
She hurriedly finished her sentence. “Mr. Adams, please don’t misunderstand. Mr. Tudor and I live in the
same neighborhood, not the same house.”
Percy nodded agreeably. “I see, of course.”
But internally he was thinking, ‘No need to explain. If the CEO says it, you two must be sleeping together

even if you’re not living together. What a temptress–a real man–eater.‘
Louisa was mortified.

She had no idea how to clarify this misunderstanding. At the elevator, she noticed Percy taking out his
phone and typing a message.
She tried to peek discreetly and only managed to see the contact labeled “Chairman” before Julian pulled
her into his private elevator.
“What are you doing?” she asked indignantly. “Now I couldn’t see what he was writing.”
Julian gave her an amused look. “His messages are private. Why are you snooping?”
“I know I shouldn’t, but he’s messaging the Chairman! He’s tattling on us.”
“You think this is the first time?”
“…So you know?”
“Whether I know or not, he has what he believes is concrete evidence. Let him say what he wants.”
Louisa wanted to point out that the “evidence” was misleading because of Julian himself, but she only
glared at him again.
Julian chuckled and reassured her, “Don’t worry. If anything comes of it, I’ll handle it.”
Louisa thought, ‘But there wouldn’t be anything to handle if you hadn’t created this problem in the first
place.‘
This felt like a trap. A big one.
When they reached the 24th floor, she stepped out gluntly.
Julian continued upward with a subtle smile playing on his lips.
Louisa had expected to be summoned by the Chairman fter Percy’s report, but everything remained quiet.
She focused on her work. She hadn’t finished reviewing the project materials Julian had given her yesterday, and it took her most of the day to complete them. She even skipped lunch.

By the time she finished, it was already past three in the afternoon.
She sent Julian a message: [Mr. Tudor, I’ve finished reviewing the project materials.]
Then she waited for further instructions.
After thirty minutes with no reply, she was getting hungry. She wanted to grab something to eat but
worried Julian might suddenly respond with a task. She decided to stay put.
Marlee came in and noticed her discomfort. “Ms. Forbes are you alright?”
“Hungry. Do you have anything to eat?”
“Yes, I have some crackers. I’ll get them for you.”
Marlee quickly brought over a package of soda crackers.
Louisa had just taken a couple of bites when Julian finally responded with a single word: [Come up.]
She quickly stuffed two more crackers in her mouth, took a sip of water, and headed to the 36th floor.
Julian had just finished a meeting and was walking out of the conference room with Teddy following
behind.
She joined them and entered the office with Teddy.
Louisa placed the project materials on his desk. “Is there anything you need me to do, Mr. Tudor?”
Julian replied casually, “Pick whichever project interests you most and take it on.”
Louisa was stunned. These were all core Tudor Group projects–surely they weren’t meant for someone at
her level?
Under normal circumstances, she wouldn’t even be allowed to see these documents.
Julian glanced at her. “What’s wrong? Not interested? Forget I offered.”
“No, no, I’m definitely interested,” she quickly pulled out one of the projects, afraid he might change his
mind. “Can I take this one?”
Julian’s lips curved into a slight smile.

Teddy looked at the project name and whistled. “You certainly aim high. Several people have their eyes on
that one, including Mr. Adams‘ team.”
“Oh.” Louisa’s enthusiasm deflated.
