Chapter 225
This was an overseas construction project. Its potential profits were enticing, which explained why so
many people were interested in it.
But it was also the most challenging project of the lot.
That challenge was precisely why Louisa wanted it.
As she started to put the materials back, Julian spoke up. “If you like it, take it.”
“Really?” Her eyes lit up with excitement, practically sparkling.
Julian smiled, though he tried to sound exasperated. “You get this excited about work?”
“Yes! I love working. I love my job.”

Teddy leaned close to her and whispered, “See how much our CEO dotes on you? Whatever you want, he
gives you.”
Louisa felt her cheeks warming. She could barely meet Julian’s eyes as she said softly, “I’ll get back to work
then.”
“Go ahead,” Julian replied.
As Louisa turned to leave, a sudden, sharp pain stabbed through her stomach. The sensation was so
intense she couldn’t stand straight.
She instinctively bent forward, pressing her hand against her stomach.
“What’s wrong?” Julian rushed over and lifted her into his arms. “Teddy, get the car ready. We’re going to
the hospital.”
“That’s not necessary,” Louisa clutched at his shirt. “It’s ust a stomach cramp. I’ll be fine in a minute.”
She knew her body well. She was generally healthy, except for these occasional stomach issues that flared
up when she wasn’t careful.
Julian carried her toward his private rest area, calling over his shoulder to Teddy, “Bring some warm water and a heating pad. And have someone send up something gentle for her stomach.”

“Right away, Mr. Tudor.”

Julian took her into the rest room and placed her on the bed. Since she couldn’t lie flat, he sat on the bed
and let her lean against his chest.
As he gently massaged her stomach, he asked, “Why the sudden stomach pain?”
“I skipped lunch, Louisa explained. “Then I ate some crackers too quickly and drank cold water just before
coming up here. That probably triggered it.”
Julian was so frustrated he wanted to scold her. He tapped her forehead with his finger. “Workaholic.
Should I announce your dedication to the entire company?”
“You said yesterday it was urgent,” she protested. “I didn’t finish reviewing everything, so of course I
needed to hurry today.”
“So it’s my fault?”
“…No.”
Julian fell silent, too irritated to speak. He held her with one arm while massaging her stomach with his
other hand. He leaned down, pressing his cheek against her forehead to check for fever. Thankfully, there
was none.
Louisa felt herself surrounded by a warm, protective energy.
As the pain gradually subsided, she looked up and met his concerned gaze. Her long eyelashes fluttered
slightly. “Mr. Tudor, I’m feeling better now. I’m fine.”
“Good,” he murmured, gently stroking her cheek and adjusting her head to rest more comfortably in the
crook of his arm.
Their eyes met at this close distance.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She had meant to say she was well enough to leave, but nestled in his embrace, surrounded by his clean
scent and comforting presence, she suddenly didn’t want to go…
Soon Teddy returned with warm water and a heating pal.
The food would take longer, so Teddy went to check on t.

Julian helped her drink some water, then offered her the heating pad. “How’s the temperature?
Comfortable?”
“…Yes.”

It was comfortable, but somehow the heating pad–which she usually relied on–didn’t provide the same
warmth and comfort it normally did.
Julian studied her for a moment, as if understanding her thoughts.
He removed the heating pad.
“What’s wrong?” Louisa asked, confused.
Without answering immediately, he placed his hand back on her abdomen and resumed his gentle massage.
Louisa raised her eyebrows in surprise. How did he know what she was thinking?
He held her as if she were a priceless treasure, his cheek against her forehead, his voice low and intimate
near her ear, “Silly girl, you can always tell me what you want.”
His perceptiveness touched her deeply.
He was right–she preferred his hand to the heating pad
She found comfort in the gentle pressure of his palm against her stomach.
When Teddy returned with food, Julian watched her eat then left her to rest in his private room while he
returned to work.
Louisa fell asleep in Julian’s rest area.
Perhaps it was his lingering scent that made her sleep deeply.
When she awoke, darkness surrounded her, with only cilly lights twinkling outside the window.
She was disoriented for a moment,
Then a familiar voice spoke softly, “Awake now?”

She realized she was in a car.
And her head was resting on his lap.
She tried to sit up quickly, but moved too fast and nearly tumbled onto the floor.
Julian steadied her and helped her into the seat beside him.

Pretending to be composed, she smoothed her hair and met Julian’s amused gaze with an awkward smile.
“Mr. Tudor, I—”
“I know your bridge–burning skills have improved. No need to demonstrate.”
He held out his hand. “Give me your phone.”
Though confused, she handed it over.
He opened the alarm app and set three reminders before returning it to her. “From now on, eat your meals
on time. Understand?”
“Okay,” she agreed.
But eating regularly seemed nearly impossible for her. She was accustomed to her previous work rhythm,
where she’d lose track of time when busy.
She couldn’t remember the last time she’d eaten three proper meals in a day.
Julian noticed her troubled expression and said with a dangerous edge to his voice, “If I find out you’ve
been skipping meals, you’ll see how I deal with such disobedience.”
“Seriously?” she muttered with a grimace.
“What was that?”
“…Nothing.”
Though she was annoyed–since when did Julian contro her eating schedule?-she didn’t dare complain.
When they reached the underground parking garage of their residential complex, Julian got out of the car.
She followed with a sullen expression.

Teddy turned and gave her a knowing wink. “Ms. Forbes, don’t forget to eat properly.”
Louisa remained silent.

She exited the car and reluctantly followed Julian’s footsteps toward home.
It was already past nine in the evening.
Back in her apartment, Louisa showered and changed into comfortable pajamas.
Having napped at Julian’s office, she wasn’t tired anymore.
She went to the study area in her living room, took a book from the shelf, and sat at her desk.
Though she intended to read, her gaze wandered to the water bowl where, to her surprise, she saw that the
Rose of Jericho had already half–opened.
