Louisa fell silent.

between you and Julian is impossible.

She forced a smile and replied politely, “Mrs. Tudor, I’m only a department head. My relationship with Mr. Tudor is strictly professional. I don’t manage his schedule. Wouldn’t it be more appropriate to speak with

Mr. Young directly?”

The implication was clear: I have no intention of being involved with your son outside of work.

After a moment’s hesitation, Louisa conceded. “Of course, Mrs. Tudor. I understand. I’ll inform Mr. Tudor.”

Adeline exchanged a few more pleasantries before ending the call.

Louisa understood perfectly. Beyond putting her in her place, Adeline clearly intended for this “blind date” topic to draw a definitive line between her and Julian.

In truth, Adeline was overthinking it. Even if Louisa had momentarily lost herself with Julian this morning, she’d never considered marrying into the Tudor family.

Arriving on the 36th floor, she found Teddy drinking water in his office.

Louisa gave him an expressionless look. “You’ve got it wrong. I’m not here for lunch.”

“OK! OK!” Teddy raised his hands. “Do whatever you want. Turn left and go straight in.”

Ignoring him, Louisa approached Julian’s office and knocked.

“Come in,” came the familiar deep, cool voice from inside.

Louisa entered. His office was spacious–the distance from the door to his desk alone was about fifty feet.

She stood in the middle, maintaining a proper distance.

Julian looked up. “Why are you standing so far away? Come closer.”

Louisa didn’t move.

Julian rose and walked toward her. “What’s wrong?” he asked, reaching for her hand when he reached her.

She stepped back, avoiding his touch.

Julian frowned slightly, studying her reaction. “What happened? Did someone upset you? Teresa?”

She was the only person he could think of. It couldn’t be him, could it?

Louisa shook her head, her tone cool and distant. “I’m fine, thank you for your concern, Mr. Tudor, I came to inform you that Mrs. Tudor just called me. She’s arranged a blind date for you tonight and insists you

attend.”

Julian’s frown deepened. “My mother called you? What se did she say?”

“Just that. She wants you to go on the blind date.”

Julian nodded. “Fine, I’ll call her.” He took out his phone and began dialing.

Louisa panicked.

With his confrontational attitude, if he called now, wouldn’t Adeline think she’d come to complain to Julian?

She’d never be able to explain herself then.

Acting quickly, she grabbed his phone, her voice tinged with pleading, “Please don’t call. Alright?”

Julian stared at her intently, his tone cooling. “So you want me to go on this blind date?”

“It’s your mother who wants you to go,” Louisa replied.

What did it have to do with her? Why drag her into their family matters? She was just delivering a

message.

Julian continued watching her. “And what about you? Do you want me to go?”

Louisa remained silent.

Why did he insist on involving her?

She took a deep breath and repeated, “It’s your mother who asked me to tell you she wants you to go on

this blind date.”

Julian studied her for a moment before letting out a cold laugh. “Fine. Since my mother sent you to deliver

this message, she must have her reasons. Perhaps she thinks my blind dates never work out, so she’s

sending you as an advisor to help me choose.”

Louisa said nothing.

What right did she have to advise him on anything?

Suppressing her frustration, she tried to speak calmly. “Mr. Tudor, I think-”

Julian cut her off. “I think my mother has finally made wise decision. In that case, I’ll trouble you to

assist me, Ms. Forbes.”

“No, that’s not what I-” Louisa tried again.

“I think you can get back to work now,” Julian interrupted.
