William hesitated, conflicted. The only hope for keeping his son from going down the wrong path rested
with Louisa. How could he not investigate her?
In truth, he knew quite a bit about Louisa already.
Julian’s first use of business leverage for personal reasons–blocking loans to both the Capulet Group and
the Price Group–had been to avenge Louisa.
And recently, Julian had been injured protecting her.
But William couldn’t tell his wife any of this. If he did, mother’s protective instincts might prejudice her
against Louisa from the start.
Regardless of what others said about Louisa, William respected her abilities.
Setting aside the Capulet and Price Group situations, the Aurora Media Group acquisition and the Oakridge
Commons project alone proved Louisa was highly competent.
She was definitely not the type of woman rumored to “seduce her boss with her beauty.”
Adeline, noticing her husband’s contemplative expression, frowned. “Are you hiding something from me?”
“Of course not. Nothing at all,” William replied.
“Don’t you dare lie to me.” Adeline’s tone turned cold and dangerous, full of warning.
Just because she stayed at home didn’t mean she was o livious to outside news. Women from prominent
families weren’t so easily fooled.
William sighed: “Fine, I’ll tell you. There is one thing I’ve kept from you. Recently, Percy reported that
Louisa and our son are living together.”
He left out everything else.
Adeline’s eyes immediately lit up with excitement. “Really?”
“According to Percy, yes,” William said. “But knowing our son, I doubt it’s what it seems. He wouldn’t just move in with someone without explanation. So I don’t know if it’s true or not, which is why I didn’t
mention it.”

Adeline didn’t care about these details. She eagerly asked, “What’s this Louisa girl like, exactly?”
“She’s a fine young woman–intelligent, beautiful. Our son personally recruited her to the Tudor Group,”
William explained. “There’s just one thing: she’s divorced. Her ex–husband is George Capulet.”
The sparkle in Adeline’s eyes dimmed. “How unfortunate.”
William asked, “What’s wrong with that? Divorce isn’t some kind of stain. If our son truly cares for her,
would you approve?”
Adeline fell silent. She couldn’t honestly say yes.
While she didn’t prioritize family background or social status, and didn’t need her son to choose a
particular type of woman–as long as she had good character and a clean family history–she truly didn’t
insist on equal social standing.
But a divorced woman… She simply couldn’t approve.
William smiled. “Didn’t you recently say that as long as it’s a woman, a living woman, anyone would do?
Why the change of heart now?”
Adeline glared at him angrily. “What parent doesn’t want their child to find a good partner?”
Realizing how this sounded, she quickly added, “I’m not saying that Louisa isn’t good. As a woman myself, how could I not understand another woman’s hardships
“She was hurt by a man–that’s not her fault. I hope he next relationship brings her happiness. But I…”
“But you just can’t accept that relationship being with our son, right?” William finished her thought.
Adeline caught his meaning and replied unhappily, “Are you calling me selfish? Don’t tell me you approve
of our son being with her?”
William sighed deeply. “To be honest, I really don’t mind.”
“What did you say?” Adeline was shocked.
“Think about it,” William said. “Of our four sons, Justins still young, so set him aside.
“Our eldest, Jonathan, became a diplomat and is rarely with us.
“Our second son, Jeffrey, chose his own path as a Doctors Without Borders physician, also far from home.

Chapter 230
“Only Julian inherited the Tudor Group and the responsibilities of the entire Tudor family. He couldn’t choose his career or his life path. If he can’t even choose the person he loves, isn’t that terribly unfair to
him?”
Adeline was speechless.
After a while, she finally said, “I understand all that. Fine, even if I agree, would our mother approve?
“Julian is the heir to the Tudor Group. So many eyes within the family and outside are watching his every move. The slightest misstep becomes fodder for gossip and criticism. We can’t ignore these considerations.”
William nodded and sighed again. “You’re right. No matter how much we sympathize with him, he remains the Tudor family heir. His actions represent the Tudor family. He simply can’t afford to be impulsive.”
“Let’s leave it for now,” Adeline concluded. “I’ve arranged several blind dates for him. Let him meet them
and we’ll see.”
William put his arm around her shoulders. “Whatever you think is best. Just one thing–don’t go too far.”
“Do I need you to tell me that?” Adeline retorted.
William smiled. “Of course not. My wife is the kindest person I know. Let’s eat.”
After breakfast, Louisa went to work. Despite only getting a few hours of sleep, she was in good spirits.
The only difference was that she kept getting distracted her thoughts repeatedly drifting to Julian…
Even Marlee noticed something was off. She leaned over Louisa’s desk with a knowing smile. “Ms. Forbes,
you’re acting strange today. Are you in love?”
Louisa snapped back to reality and tapped Marlee’s head with her pen. “What nonsense are you talking about? Stop making things up and get back to work.”
“Yes, ma’am.” Marlee scurried away.
Louisa patted her warm, flushed cheeks, forcing herself to focus. But just as she was about to concentrate
on work, her phone rang.
It was an unfamiliar number.

She answered with a professional tone. “Hello?”
“Hello, this is Adeline Brown, Julian’s mother.”
The voice was gentle and polite. Yet Louisa felt a chill run through her body.

With a sense of foreboding, she composed herself and replied courteously, “Mrs. Tudor, what can I do for
you?”
