He wiped it with care and tenderness.

His long fingers were elegant and defined, his skin impossibly clean and beautiful When he turned her palm over to clean between her fingers, their hands looked harmonious together, as if God had designed them specifically to fit one another.

Louisa lost herself in his voice.

A minute later, Julian finished cleaning her hand. He tossed the wipe into the trash and pulled out two more tissues to dry her skin.

Then he showed her clean, beautiful hands to her. ‘See? All clean. Satisfied?”

Louisa met his gaze and blushed, quickly pulling her hand back. ‘Yes, it’s clean. Thanks, Julian. Um, I should check if our food is ready.”

She was trying to escape again.

But as she stood up, she saw Teddy approaching with a tray.

On it was a steaming bowl of chicken noodle soup and a thick bowl of creamy co chowder.

Teddy set the tray on the table. ‘Here’s the first course. I’ll get the rest from the kitchen.”

“Go ahead, Julian said casually.

Louisa didn’t say a word. She grabbed the chicken soup and began drinking it immediately, ignoring how hot it was.

It was her survival instinct kicking in.

After a few sips, shed finished it and couldn’t help glancing at Julian’s bowl.

He hadn’t touched his soup yet, just slowly stirring the creamy corn chowder as steam rose from it.

She unconsciously swallowed–it looked delicious.

Julian noticed her reaction and made a small sound of exasperation before pushing the bowl toward her. “Here, eat it.”

Louisa immediately reached for it.

“Don’t eat too much, he warned. “The main course is coming, and you need balanced nutrition.”

“I got it, she said.

She cradled the bowl and sipped the soup slowly.

Thinking about last night, she couldn’t help stealing glances at Julian.

Without food in front of him, he’d switched to a cup of black coffee, sipping it with the elegance of someone in a fine dining establishment.

He hadn’t mentioned anything about last night.

But she was the instigator. She couldn’t just ignore it.
