Seeing her distress, Sadie and Louisa didn’t press further, waiting for her to compose herself.

Fabian comforted her gently. ‘Anissa, take your time. Louisa and Sadie are here help. They’ve been investigating Mark’s case, just like Julian. They’re on
our side, so try to stay calm.”
“I know, I know.” Anissa wiped away her tears.
Louisa handed her a glass of warm water. “Here, drink this. Take your time, there no rush.”
“Thank you.” Anissa’s hands trembled as she accepted the glass, taking a sip and then cradling it in her palms.
She continued, “After Vivian transferred to Virella Highlands High, she constantly harassed Mark, even following him home and refusing to leave him alone.
“My Mark was smart and handsome. Many girls liked him, I know that. I told him that if he didn’t like a girl, he should be honest about it, not avoid the
situation.”
She took another sip of water before continuing. “Mark said he had already rejected Vivian multiple times. But she wouldn’t give up. She even brought her friends to ambush him on his way home from school. The more she pushed, the ss he liked her.
“Vivian, probably out of desperation, turned her attention to Becky. Poor Becky was timid and afraid to fight back. After being bullied, she was too scared to attend classes. But she was always considerate and didn’t want to worry her father, so she forced herself to keep going.”
Her voice softened. “I learned all this from Mark. I knew he liked Becky. They had planned to attend the same college and start dating once they got there.”
“They had everything planned, so full of hope for the future, but then… then it happened…” Anissa’s eyes welled up again, unable to continue.
Louisa and Sadie felt their hearts breaking as they listened. Planning college together. Dating after they got in. A talented boy and a beautiful girl, both excellent students. Such a simple, beautiful dream.
If Vivian hadn’t appeared, perhaps they would already be in college together, happy and in love. But all of that had been destroyed. One dead. One broken. Against powerful wealth, they were utterly helpless.
Louisa suddenly thought of herself. Was she really any different from Becky and Mark? No–except she had met Julian, who was even more powerful. He had kept her under his protection, shielding her from harm…
At this thought, she looked up at Julian. As if sensing her gaze, he was already looking back at her. When their eyes met, something like electricity passed between them, making her tingle all over. She couldn’t look away.
Julian seemed to understand what she was thinking. He smiled slightly and tooker cold hand in his. Warmth flooded through her. Not a word was spoken, yet Louisa felt completely safe.
It felt like sheltering in a warm cabin with a roaring fire while a blizzard raged outside–like living in a fairy tale…
Yet she’d never believed in fairy tales before.
Across from them, Anissa watched with sadness in her eyes. “Girls are naturally Inerable. It’s right for boys to protect them. I know my Mark never regretted it. He would never regret it…‘ She wiped away another tear.
Fabian patted her shoulder and addressed the group. “Let me continue from here)
He went on: “Mark’s last phone call was from Becky. That same day, Becky was ten by Vivian, had her face disfigured, and was raped. Clearly, Mark’s

disappearance and Becky’s assault were connected to Vivian.

“But when the police questioned Vivian, she claimed she was hosting a party with many classmates who could verify that Becky had only stayed briefly before going home.
“The police believed this without even investigating and released her. Afterward, the surveillance footage from the school and Vivian’s house
conveniently disappeared.”
Fabian’s voice hardened. “Anissa was convinced Mark’s disappearance was connected to Vivian, so when Vivian returned to Silverlight City, she went to the
Price Manor several times.
“But they wouldn’t even let her through the gate. We still had hope that Mark might be imprisoned somewhere in the mansion, so we kept watch outside for
days, but found nothing.
“Then we started receiving threats. Strange things happened around us, as if someone wanted us dead.”
His voice dropped lower. “We realized Mark was probably already gone. If we continued investigating, Anissa would be in danger too. So she staged a gas
explosion and went into hiding, presumed dead.
“After that, we decided to investigate privately. But as ordinary people with no money or connections, we could only piece things together slowly. Eventually, we traced everything back to the Price family orchard and finally found Mark. We brought him home.”
He sighed deeply. “The tragic part is that even with evidence, we were too afraid to take it to the police. The Price family had bought them off. We had no power to fight against the wealthy. Even the law wouldn’t help us. To this day, we haven’t been able to get justice for Mark.
Fabian stroked Anissa’s white hair tenderly. “She’s not even fifty, yet her hair is completely white, like a seventy–year–old woman. She’s suffered so much…”
Only now did Sadie and Louisa understand why Mark’s body hadn’t been found in the orchard–Anissa had already recovered it and brought it home.
The story was overwhelmingly tragic. A single mother bearing unbearable pain. Yet this mother was admirably strong. Her determination had finally brought her son home. The tragedy was that even with evidence, the world still offered her no justice.
Fabian laughed bitterly. “The Price family, with their blood–stained hands, probably never dreamed we would recover Mark’s remains. They’re probably still celebrating, thinking their devil of a daughter has escaped punishment again.”
Sadie slammed her palm on the table and stood up firmly. “So what if we don’t have money or power? Does that mean we deserve to suffer such injustice? The reason I became a lawyer is because I can’t stand seeing justice denied!”
Her eyes flashed with determination. “This time, I will send Vivian to prison! Even if it’s difficult, even if the world is full of darkness, I will stand my
ground and get justice for Mark!”
