Chapter 291
“How considerate of you to make the trip, he replied, his voice detached, not angry but lacking its usual warmth–completely emotionless.
But Louisa could tell he was unhappy. Very unhappy.
An uncomfortable silence fell over them.
Bob, sensing the tension, intervened. “Let’s eat before everything gets cold.‘
They all sat down.

Louisa picked up her knife and fork, eating slowly, not daring to look at Julian’s cold expression. She’d arrived full of courage, but now that courage had completely deserted her. She wished she could leave immediately. The delicious food before her suddenly didn’t seem appetizing at all.
Bob, sensing the issue between them, tried to lighten the mood by placing a bow of porridge in front of Louisa.
“Louisa, try this. It’s my new recipe–a digestive porridge. Let me know what you think.”
“Thanks, Bob, she said as she began eating.
But she couldn’t taste anything. She felt bad for wasting Bob’s thoughtfulness.
After they ate in silence for a while, Julian stood up and walked out to the balcony.
Louisa quickly followed him.
His apartment was much larger than hers. While she only had a viewing window, Julian had both massive floor–to–ceiling windows and this open–air balcony.

It had a tea table, two chairs, a sun umbrella, and plants and flowers that Bob had grown. The fragrance of greenery and blossoms mingled with the hary moonlight–beautiful and somehow familiar.
Julian sat in one chair and said, ‘Sit.”
Louisa sat down.
Julian leaned back, legs crossed casually, gazing at the moon on the horizon. “Whatever you want to say, say it.”
Louisa bit her lip hard, feeling a dull ache in her chest. But she’d come this far al couldn’t back down now.
After a moment of silence, she spoke firmly. “I know the Vivian situation was resolved smoothly because you helped behind the scenes. I wanted to thank
you properly.”
Julian made a small sound of acknowledgment. Fine. I’ve heard your sincere thaks, Ms. Forbes.”
His cold voice betrayed no emotion, no hint of pleasure or displeasure.
But Louisa couldn’t help feeling that her behavior was pathetic.
She gritted her teeth, her voice dropping lower, becoming uncertain. I know this hank you seems insincere, but I don’t know how else to thank you. You have everything, you want for nothing… I’ll work hard in the future to repay you

Chapter 291
“Is that all? Julian asked.
Louisa fell silent.
What else could she say?

Saying more would seem fake since she had nothing to offer him. But saying not ng made her feel cold–blooded and insincere.
Julian finally turned to look at her. ‘Louisa, you truly live up to your reputation a math genius and finance prodigy. You’re quite the calculator. You take my salary and try to pass off the work you’re already supposed to do as a thank you gift to me. Isn’t that a losing deal for me?”
Louisa’s heart trembled, her cheeks burning.
After a moment, she said, “I know I owe you too much, but besides work, I have othing else to offer as thanks.”
Julian stared at her steadily, his tone gentle. “How can that be true? You know perfectly well what you could give, but you don’t want to. That’s why you keep repeating yourself. You don’t want to give, yet you don’t want to owe. You claim there’s nothing else you can offer while insisting on thanking me-
aren’t you just trying to repay a debt of gratitude at the lowest possible cost?”
Louisa was completely speechless.
How could she forget? This was Julian–the man who could see through people’s hearts and all their pretenses.
He had stripped her thoughts bare, making her feel even more awkward.
After contemplating for a moment, she finally spoke again. “You’re right, and I have no defense. I said before that I could work for you for five years, unpaid,
for free. If you’re willing to accept that, it’s the most sincere offer I can make.
“If you can’t accept that, I can only remain in your debt and repay you when I have the opportunity in the future.
“Tomorrow I’ll resign from the Tudor Group, and I won’t trouble you anymore. I hope everything goes well for you in the future.”
Her eyes reddened slightly as she gave him one final look. “Goodbye, Julian.”
