That unwavering determination was truly using her life force to resist both delicious food and a handsome man.
She couldn’t compromise.
Julian’s eyes dimmed slightly. He didn’t push her, only sighing softly, Fine. This leaning sounds pretty important. Goodnight, Louisa.”
“Goodnight,‘ she replied, quickly slipping inside and shutting the door behind he

Truth was, there wasn’t any cleaning that needed doing. Her weekly housekeeping service kept the place spotless, and she tidied up daily. Her apartment was
already clean and organized.
Yet somehow, maybe because all the windows had been closed, she felt a tightness in her chest. She opened a window to let fresh air in, grabbed a bottle of chilled soda water from the fridge, and gulped down half of it. Then she sat on the couch beneath her floor–to–ceiling windows, unboxing her new phone
and setting it up.
As she worked, Julian’s face kept appearing in her mind. He’d taken her to buy a phone, remembered everything about her, and helped her tremendously
with the Vivian situation.
She knew perfectly well that she and Sadie alone could never have stood against the Price family. It was all because Julian was there. He d identified every person involved, leaving the Price family completely defenseless.
And she hadn’t even properly thanked him.
Worse, she’d practically assaulted him at the hotel–kissed him forcefully and even tried to sleep with him…
Now she was trying to pretend none of it had happened.
Would he think she was burning bridges again?
She suddenly remembered his noticeably cold expression at her doorway, and her heart felt like it had been stabbed with a needle.
Was she being too heartless? Even if he lacked for nothing and she had no idea how to repay him, shouldn’t she at least offer a formal thank you?
Meanwhile, next door at Julian’s place.
Bob had just set dinner on the table when he saw Julian enter alone. He peered behind Julian, looking for someone else.
‘Don’t bother looking. She’s not coming,‘ Julian said flatly before heading to his Bedroom.
But Bob wasn’t giving up.
He quickly followed, asking, “Why didn’t Louisa come for dinner? Doesn’t she usually love to eat? I thought she liked my cooking.
‘She said she needed to clean, Julian replied.
“She could clean anytime! Her stomach is already sensitive–if she doesn’t eat early, how will it ever heal?‘ Bob fussed, rambling on
Julian cut him off. “What good does telling me do?”
Bob studied him for a moment, then grinned. ‘I’ll go tell her myself. She needs to come eat something. I even made her that digestive porridge.”

Julian said nothing, which wasn’t exactly a refusal.

Bob returned to the dining room, picked up his phone, and took a beautiful photo of the spread of food. He sent it to Louisa with a voice message: “Louisa, I thought you’d be coming back with Mr. Tudor, so I made all these delicious dishes Now that you’re not coming, just the two of us can’t finish it all. Why don’t you come over and eat something? You ll need energy for cleaning anyway.”
At that moment, Louisa was staring blankly at her phone. When she saw Bob’s message, her internal conflict deepened.
The meal itself wasn’t really the issue. More importantly, she needed to thank Julian properly. And she still hadn’t paid him for the phone. A digital transfer
seemed impersonal.
Why not use this dinner opportunity to thank him properly and pay for the phone? She could also clear up the mess she’d made last night.
Resolve everything at once. If she kept putting it off, things would only get more complicated.
With that decided, she replied to Bob’s message and quickly got up from the couch. Though nervous, she knew a swift cut was the cleanest.
When Julian emerged from his bathroom freshly showered and dressed in comfortable loungewear, he found Louisa sitting politely in his living room,
chatting with Bob.
On the table in front of her sat a thick envelope that appeared to contain money!
Was she here to draw a clear boundary between them?
Julian maintained his composure, though his expression darkened.
Louisa greeted him politely when she saw him.
Julian only responded coolly, saying nothing else.
Louisa felt awkward. She quickly picked up the envelope from the table and held it out to him with both hands. “Julian, here’s three thousand dollars for the
phone you bought me. I wanted to repay you.”
